Outsider, I think the work of signing the HS kids will be more concentrated during the regular signing period in February. I could definitely see ACU signing 12-14 HS kids in February. I think that a few scholarships will also be held back looking for some key FBS drop-downs. I think you're right. I don't think there will be a lot of HS recruits during the early signing period. My thought to help ease my mind is that they are probably focusing heavy on the JUCOs now to get what they want there so they can spend a little more time for HS in the spring, as well as JUCOs and Dropdowns.

What grade would ya'll give this early signing class? I would give it a A-. The staff filled virtually every need, but I think we still need a few more OL. If we get either Preston or Lorenz or both, then it becomes a A+. I'm leaning on a solid B+ for now. We have a very good list. If we had gotten more OL early I might be in the A range. We may still get there.

All of the early signees highlight tapes are now on YouTube. I'll update it if we get anymore signees. Here's the playlist: Playlist

There seem to be some players in the group. Robinson seemed really good to me at CB. Aggressive, makes quick decisions, breaks on the ball really well. Klayman looked really good too. I'd like to know the name of the receiver who had serious speed that Klayman kept throwing too (wise decision). McKnight will fit right in. Good speed, good hands, gobbles up yardage. If we can open up some holes he and James will be a great one-two punch. Lechman seems to be solid at LB. Depth, we're adding depth. Can't wait to see who we sign in Feb. Maybe some big guys to redshirt and a couple of drop downs.

OK, seeing the JUCOs we signed, is there still a position we need immediate help? We were already solid at Safety; we helped ourselves at CB (adding 3) and look to be solid there; LB-we added one, may need another; DE, we still may need a speed guy but have some depth from our holdovers there (newcomer Brian Miller looks strong but a tad slow); DT-I'd liked to have seen a big bruiser added, maybe later. Nyandika is quick but small.
Offense-We helped our depth with Klayman at QB and McKnight at RB, maybe add some HS talent and redshirt. Receiver-with Fuller coming back (he is, isn't he?) and adding Torin Justice (not speedy but a high flyer)we may still need somone immediate here (Miller improved last year IMO and Fink will continue to be a contributor); TE-we added depth, so we come to the OL. Lovette and Napierkowski look like they booth can play-so add them to Laws, Weber, Parmelly and all the redshirts from last year. Not sure who is ready for prime time but Cage Hendrix looks the part to me. Do we need more depth here--? YES!

I was really proud of him to stick around and put in the work. Does anyone know how his academics are coming along? I feel next year could be special if everything progresses.

I keep asking. "Where are the big boys?" Napierkowski isn't big and I don't think can step in to the 2-deep. Lovette looks to be a solid center and will allow Weber to play another position. I'm still looking for the 6'5" 310 guy that can play from day 1.

We signed multiple players that didn't even play this past year and maybe half of the class had no other D1 offers reported. I'd feel better about this class if every one of them was 1st team all conference, had a slew of D1 offers, and measurables that jump off the page. Only time will tell if we have some players, but to say the signing class gets a grade of an A seems a bit premature.
Only thoughts: I wonder if Robinson plays corner or safety, coach brown tweeted that he was versatile. The DL from Navarro seems like he should stay at DE considering we have less depth there but if he isn't quick enough, DT it is. We have quite a few TE's now and a load of OL. I hope we can start pounding the ball in the near future.

What happened to Clay Padget? I thought he was a good get last year.

Wow, just listened to the Coastal Carolina press conference. They signed 18, 15 of which are in High School. A bunch of skill players on offense-- -0- big guys, unless you count a 240 DL/OL. 2 QB's, 2 RB's, 3 WR, several smallish TE's. Said recruiting FBS was challenging but they felt they needed to add speed. Still have lots of scholarships to offer to go after big guys but 15 HS guys was quite a surprise.

Some of y’all really need to trust the coaching staff and their evaluations. Some people here are so damn pessimistic all the time.

I wish, how I wish, players wouldn't/couldn't just drop off the team without some sort of explanation from the team. You don't have to wreck a kids life by telling his passion for the game waned, or grades were a challenge, or wanted to go somewhere else where he might get to play more. Something, anything to let a kid know his time here was valued and to let us fans have something else to gripe about.

I think you’re being a litttle unrealistic in your expectations.

Those weren't my expectations.
And that's why I'm not going to give a grade to this signing class.

Who is pessimistic? I haven't seen any pessimism at all. Most have just pointed out what they see with their untrained eye (certainly the case for me). I'm actually excited to see what we do with these guys. And if you want to curse--go somewhere else!
