The 'Cats have 18 games left in the season -- 12 conference games and 6 out of conference and that includes 3 games with Siena, who are 7-26 on the season and 4-23 on the road (that is pretty lousy, playing 80% of your games on the road) and that is 1-2 against Quinnipiac, who we swept earlier in the year. I still think that Coach Bonneau's status will hinge on how well we play down the stretch. We go 12-6 (8-4 in conference), then we end the season at 30-23 (12-18 in conference). We go 6-12 (4-8 in conference) down the stretch and end up at 24-29 (8-22 in conference -- probably last or next-to-last in the SLC), I don't know if that is good enough for Coach Bonneau to get another year.

Well looks like the road trip was a disaster, since we lost both games. I haven't followed baseball as closely this year so don't know what parts need to be tweeked (sp?) but it seems we still don't have good enough pitching to win in the SLC (or anywhere else, for that matter).

Roster shows that we have only 3 seniors this year. Trevino (could have been our leading hitter) never played. Hansen must have gotten hurt (no published word) as he only pitched in 2 games in Feb. (could have been a good arm for us). And Caleb Dougherty who saw quite a bit of pitching action. Will we lose more players this year? We certainly need pitching help and don't have a roster place for them. What is the limit in baseball. Seems I've seen tweets from several position players who are coming.

We lose more players every year. Roster attrition for baseball has been horrible. Baseball has a roster limit of 25, almost all of whom are on partial scholarship.

The team was in a wreck with two trucks last night but thankfully it appears everyone is ok.

On April 18, I posted about the ACU baseball record and proposed that if over the last month of the season that ACU could go 12-6 (8-4 in conf), that it "might" be able to save Coach Bonneau's job -- this was posted the day after the season highlight of ACU beating TCU.
Since that time, ACU has gone 2-13 (0-9 in conference). The only 2 wins were against a Mississippi Valley State team that would have a hard time beating Wylie (Wylie is the 2-time 4A state championship baseball team -- that might be far too lofty for MVSU). The last series of the year starts tonight against TAMU-CC. TAMU-CC have to win all three games to have a chance of making the conference tourney -- they are currently in 9th and 2 games out of 8th. ACU could win all 3 games and still finish last in the conference -- we are 4 games out of last entering the weekend. It would appear that this could lead to a TAMU-CC sweep.
So, if we lose this weekend, that puts ACU at 21-33 on the season and 5-25 in conference. ACU is 8-1 against Southwestern Athletic Conference teams (the SWAC is arguably the worst conference in D-1 athletics) and 5-0 against MVSU on the season. I think that these numbers will not add up to another year for Coach Bonneau, but I thought was the case last year and he was given another year. I think that Coach Bonneau has done some good things at ACU in the past, but he has struggled to get anything going in the 5 years since ACU joined D-I.
