Coach Bonneau has resigned after 22 years: Story link. A national search will begin immediately for his replacement.

Program not flourishing as of late, but Coach B did put ACU baseball back on the map. His career speaks for itself. Will miss him a lot!

Any logical candidates for the HC job?

Dallas Baptist Assistant HC/Recruting Coordinator Dan Fitzgerald is someone I would go after. He has experience at a small private religious school in Texas and has been very successful. Here's his page on DBU Athletics: dbupatriots.com/coaches.aspx?rc=457&path=baseball

There are quite a few good options outside of Fitzgerald as well:
Texas Tech Asst. J-Bob Thomas
TCU Asst. HC Bill Mosiello
Texas Asst. Sean Allen
WT A&M HC Matt Vanderburg
Tarleton HC Bryan Conger
TX A&M Kingsville HC Jason Gonzales
Concordia HC Tommy Boggs
Oklahoma City HC Denney Crabaugh
Oklahoma Wesleyan HC Matt Parker
Texas Wesleyan Interim HC Bobby Garza
Wayland Baptist HC Brad Bass
TX A&M Texarkana HC Steve Jones
Fitzgerald is still my number 1 choice but really I would be happy with any of these coaches.

Why in the world would we go after a D2 or NAIA coach? We had the best (or one of the best) D2 coaches around and he could not win at the D1 level. Is there not an ACU alum currently at a D1 school who can coach baseball? Just asking! (Maybe we bring back Stover--Just kidding!)

IMO just because a D2 coach failed here doesn't mean all of them will. It isn't the direction I want them to go, but I think it is valid. I'm all aboard the D1 assistant train. Also I can't think of any ACU alumni currently coaching at the D1 level.

Um, cf. Adam Dorrel. Of course, jury is still out on whether he can successfully navigate the challenges of becoming competitive at the D1 level, but we did hire a D2 HC.

I don't think Bonneau failed here. When we were D2, he brought in good talent and won. But D1 is a whole nuther ballgame and he couldn't get over that hump. Bringing in people who know the D2 game won't work IMO. We have to get D1 savvy. Getting the pitching coach from California (and a winner) was a good start but he probably won't be here long if he is as we speak. I'm thinking Bonneau knew his days were numbered and had Stover leave so he could establish himself somewhere else and not have to leave as a loser here. If DeLeon had stayed I wouldn't have been surprised if he brought back Stover but now...

Football is just a little different than baseball. 85 (or 65, whatever) scholarships to 12 or 13. Let's talk apples to apples.

I meant failed at the D1 level. Sorry should've worded it better.

They were 36-17 and 16-5 in the MVC for 2nd place. They've had 8 regional and 1 super regional appearance in the last 10 years. They hosted a regional in 2015. If we can get Fitzgerald, he's the guy, I think.

J-Bob Thomas is an ACU Alum at a Top D1 program. Not sure how the salary would compare to where he is now though.

J-Bob Thomas is an ACU Alum at a Top D1 program. Not sure how the salary would compare to where he is now though. IF he is willing to leave what he has done in Lubbock, he seems like the type of person, and coach, we would want here. A couple of interesting pieces found. "As he explained to the exasperated HR representative, it was never about the money." - what the article said about him... “Not even so much about baseball, but about life,” - what a recruit said about the conversations Thomas would have with him and his family... www.baseballamerica.com/stories/thomas-hard-work-pays-off-for-texas-tech/
