OK, so Jaren Lewis and Jalone Friday are picked preseason all-conference. As a team our men are picked 4th in the preseason poll. Are we that good or are we even better? I think that Kolton Kohl and Joe Pleasant may be the difference. If they can each play significant minutes in the post, contribute 5-7 points per game and give Jalone breaks and maybe even allow him to play on the perimeter a little; we may have something. We have role players in Howell, Farquhar, Maxwell and Lenox and are adding Gayman, Cameron and Daniels. I'm assuming Ricks and Franklin will start at guard and Jaren at SF. Who will start at #3? Will that position be a guard or forward? Personally, I'd like to see Lewis at #3, Friday at #4 and Kohl at #5 but the problem with that is that Friday and Kohl(and Howell) are foul prone and that hurts your subbing strategy. Maxwell is an energy guy with a great shot but he has to be a consistent scorer to take some heat off of our inside game. Franklin can't do that (or hasn't). Lenox is more of a defensive player. A lot hinges on the 4 new guys and their ability to contribute. In a perfect storm we can be really, really good.
Golding mentioned the scrimmages with New Mexico (State?) and Texas State in his interview. Didn't give specifics on the outcomes nor any indication of how specific players did. Sure would like to know but the opener is Tuesday. I'd suppose everyone will play significant minutes. Maybe the starting 5 will be an indication.
Listened to Goldings interview last night. Sorry to hear that Hayden Howell is out for the year but that may make next years team a lot stronger. Sounds like Joe Pleasant will get lots of minutes and Gayman has been a pleasant surprise. Looking forward to see what Cameron, Daniels, and Kohl bring to the table this year. This could be a very good year for Cat basketball. I'm ready. Go Cats.
Anyone at the game? Not a real tester but this squad finally got on the floor. Happy with Maxwell's production. Surprised (maybe I shouldn't be) at Pleasant's 14 points. Thought Cameron would score more (maybe more of a project than I had heard). Daniels got some significant time. Ricks looked solid. Friday? Surprised that Franklin didn't score but that may not be his role this season--then again we needed to see others and it was always a blowout so he didn't need to score. I'd like to see Lewis with 18 every night. Gayman started slow but was productive. How were we on the defensive end?

I did not go to the game last night. I’ve watched Cameron in practice and he’s got a very long way to go. Needs a lot of work in the weight room and doesn’t defend very well. But, he’s just a freshman. He has time to mature. But in my opinion, don’t wait around for any contribution this year.
