ACU lost the first set 23-25, then turned things around in the 2nd set winning 25-22. Won the 3rd set decisively 25-10 and won the 4th set 25-18. This is not a real good Georgetown team -- 8-22 last year and next-to-last in the Big East. But, these are games that we SHOULD win and today, we DID win. It is still a big deal to beat a Big East school. Winthrop was 18-14 last year and finished in the middle of the pack in the Big South -- a conference that includes schools like Campbell, Radford, Gardner-Webb, and Presbyterian. It would appear that this is another winnable game -- would be great to start out the season 2-0!

Tough weekend for volleyball with losses to UTSA, Texas State, and James Madison. OOC opponents the next couple of weeks include Tulsa, LSU, SMU, Liberty and Oral Roberts. This is a brutal preconference schedule but they should be ready for Southland play.
Ouch, the TSU tournament hurt! I think we can match up with each of the three teams that beat us last weekend.
Incidentally, one of the players for TX State (I don't think she started against ACU, although she has started many games for TSU in the past 2 seasons) was Brooke Johnson, the daughter of former All-American golfer Clint Johnson. Clint really wanted Brooke to come to ACU, but we did not have an open spot for a setter/defensive specialist when Brooke graduated high school and she got a full ride from TSU. I would certainly love to see a legacy like Brooke at ACU! However, in sport like volleyball, you have 2-4 scholarships per year and it is a real challenge to match up the team needs with the personnel who are interested.
