I'm getting excited about the prospects for our 2020 Wildcat baseball team. Coach McCarty seems to be building a team that can compete in the SLC. There is a thread on the recruiting page that lists commits but I thought I'd try to put together the list by position on this thread. Don't have a lot of info on early signees but the additions of pitchers Glaze, Johnson, Krawietz and outfielder Clearman form a pretty good freshman class.
Right handed pitchers Ben Johnson Tyler Morgan Johnnie Krawietz--2019 Texas All-star, all time consecutive scoreless innings holder at 58 Ryan Johnson--Abilene High ace. 6'4" fireballer Austin Glaze--5A state champs Colleyville Heritage--1st team all-state 15-0 record Colby Atkins--JUCO transfer Shaun Hickey--JUCO transfer--closer Tanner Riley--JUCO transfer
Left handed pitchers Owen Cuffe Nathan Hawkins--JUCO transfer, originally signed with Wichita State
Catchers Mike Bieterman--JUCO transfer Ryan Fox Thomas Brannon--catcher/pitcher
Infielders Cal Strandt--ss Trey Harrison--ss/pitcher Hunter Geiser--JUCO transfer--1st base Tommy Cruz--JUCO transfer--2nd base .299 BA
Outfielders Miller Landasau Hayden Clearman--from Nationally ranked #1 team Argyle, Texas state 4A champs Alex Vergara Trevor Jackson--JUCO transfer Nico Limoncelli--Transfer from Polk State College, 23 SB Joseph Craig--JUCO transfer .353 BA

I have no insider knowledge on anything re: ACU baseball. I have watched a bunch of games since retiring and moving back to Abilene in 2014. From that perspective alone, this group of players should make it really fun to watch some ACU baseball!
I can see us being more competitive next season, maybe middle of the pack kind of placement would be awesome. Give these young pitchers some experience, and we could be competing with a top 4 finish in a couple of years. Hopefully, that is not ONLY purple colored thinking. Seems to be realistic projections. What say you?

It appears that Daniel Furuto is leaving the program. Coach McCarty sent out a tweet saying they wish him the best

Baseball has added Daniel Martony as an assistant coach. Martony played college ball at Oral Roberts and has been a volunteer assistant there for the past 2 years. He was a highly talented pitcher for 3 years there. He also is the co-owner of the Santa Barbara Forresters, a summer league baseball program that traditionally attracts some of the best college baseball players in the nation. Welcome Daniel and wife, Emily.

Big change coming - ACU baseball tickets Baseball will be going with season tickets to be out sometime mid winter with plan, pricing and incentives. I likeee To clarify, football, basketball and baseball will charge admission All other sports free to view until further notice. No more "Wildcat Card" for lesser attendance sports

hopefully Ward doesn't start charging Students to get into games, already having a hard time getting students to go to games with special events for students at them.

hopefully Ward doesn't start charging Students to get into games, already having a hard time getting students to go to games with special events for students at them. Why is this the attitude this board takes in regards to tickets? It is very common for students at D1 schools to buy sports passes and tickets to get into games. If you want to be D1 and enjoy everything that goes into that, you have to be a big boy and accept the changes that come with funding a D1 program.

There is zero chance that students will be charged for tickets anytime soon. Or ever.

“Charged” on site or “charged” with an athletic package being tacked on to tuition fees.

“Charged” on site or “charged” with an athletic package being tacked on to tuition fees. I think you will find that for the most part, student athletic fees are used by public universities who cannot use state funding for athletics. There probably are exceptions but private universities generally don’t charge these fees. It’s not that students don’t pay, just not this way. Baylor, for example, charges one student fee of $188 per semester hour to undergrads but no specific athletic student fee.

ACU on the other hand relies on large donations from a very small group of individuals. Those pockets are deep but they get tired of supporting day to day operations. They would rather make large capital project gifts.

Of course. Baylor also has buckets of TV money and a $100mm+ athletic budget.
I stand by my previous statement. There is zero chance that ACU will sell tickets to students.
The rest of us .... all of this season ticket stuff is long overdue.
