Bogey is just trying to be optimistic and be a possibility thinker. Too many things miring me in the negative right now. Doing my best to see light anywhere it is possible. I do have reasons for thinking a positive season is possible (but of course, an equal # of negatives).

Bogey, I certainly see your reasoning for being upbeat about this season and for looking at the bright side. I hope that all of your predictions come true!

8-3. I don’t see us topping SMU, SFA will be a disappointingly close loss and Jacksonville State is a traditional FCS power. Otherwise, we win and the win over the defending National champs catapult into the postseason! Our coaches have worked hard to address the issues coming out of last year, and the players have invested heavily in themselves on our behalf. I, for one, am looking forward to a positive 2021 season! See ya’ Saturday night @ The House That Doak Outgrew! Go Wildcats!! Beat Peruna!!! I’d love to see this happen. When I lived in the heart of SEC country, fans used to joke about South Carolina holding the record for self proclaimed pre season SEC championships. In the SLC, the preseason championship most often went to Stephen F Austin. Maybe we can claim that title in the WAC with you and Bogey leading the way and the rest of us hoping you are right.

Coastal Carolina had a season that shocked the football world last year after several really disappointing seasons under Chadwell. The reason for the turnaround--the emergence of a top flight QB in his 2nd year in the program. Many of the same players, same coaches, same scheme, different QB. I see many of the same ingredients at ACU this year.

My point being, leadership matters.

In response to Oscar, not a totally new OL but a very undersized line that lost a starter early.

I think it will be stretch for us to get 4 wins this year. I want to be optimistic, but just don't see. I'm going with 3-8. Hello negative nancy, You make we want to drink! SMU: 35-42 L LA College: 59-0 W UTPB:49-3 W Lamar: 28-21 W UCA: 35-42 LEKU:35-31 W Lamar:14-13 OT W SFA: 42-28 W JSU: 21-24 L Tarleton: 48-7 W SHSU: 31-28 2OT's W - Zepeda wins it in 2nd overtime with field goal! 8-3 Rolling to Playoffs...... I believe!!!! There's believing and there's being realistic. If I pick the Cats to go undefeated (and I'd LOVE THAT!), it isn't going to change one bit how they perform. Predictions are based on facts and if the last couple years are any indication, you'll be drinking about mid-season. All the best - Nancy

As most of you know, I’m rarely shy about making predictions. But I have no sense of how good this team is.
The games we can win, I think, are Louisiana, UTPB, Lamar/Lamar, UCA (The Bears come to town after playing Sam. I think they will be vulnerable), SFA, EKU, and TSU. I think Jax St and Sam are just at another level. Of these 8 games, Lamar (1), SFA and EKU are on the road. So looking at all this, I think the O/U is 4.5. Maybe 3.5.

I really haven’t had any expectations for this season. Last season was so frustrating and weird on so many levels. I’m still scarred from the Angelo State game. If we win less than 4 games, I will be disappointed, but at the same time, if we win 6 I will be pleased. A couple of interesting things to think about is the teams on our schedule that played in the spring. I’m curious to see if they will have the endurance at the end of the season or if they will be fully prepared at the beginning with no spring practice. Sam would have played effectively 2 full seasons in 9 months or so, JSU would have played 3 seasons in just over 15 months, with an abbreviated season last fall. I can’t think of any precedent to this. Olympic basketball and Euro Association Soccer are the closest comparisons, but it doesn’t take the physical toll that football does. Those games could be more winnable than we initially think. Or they could be blowouts. I just hope Sam doesn’t score 70 on us. If this team is similar to the 2018 or 2019 team with a better OL, then maybe we do have a decent chance at a winning record. We competed with UCA and Sam those years. Another hopeful fact is that JSU beat Mercer by 6 at home and we beat Mercer by 3 on the road, after giving up only 12 yards in the 4th Quarter. All that to say is this team has potential, I just don’t want to be disappointed. 4-7 is my prediction.

I am clueless and after watching the third scrimmage, I am nervous. We don't seem to have a way to create space and open up the offense so unless the defense is far better than I think, then 4-7 is my guess. Surely we will beat the weak lower tier teams on the schedule.
Not sure why we don't seem to create turnovers the last couple of seasons, or why we don't open up the offense -- there is just not much deception in our play calling. I am impressed with Earle and we do have some running backs but how can we change the game so speed and guile replace pushing and shoving? I really hope for a decent showing against SMU, but if we go at them like a snow-plow, it could be another tough year. But who knows? Change happens and here's to hoping for a 7-4 or 8-3.

Week 9 opponent, Jacksonville State, is down 0-10 to UAB. That’s another FCS vs FBS matchup. Reason to work, and reason to worry, at the same time.

6 wins would exceed the expectations of the coaches' poll.
Outside of LA College and UTPB, there are no easy victories on our schedule. Lamar has added quite a bit of talent in the off-season, so beating them twice doesn't look easy. I think we will be a decided underdog against UCA, SFA, Sam, and Taretlon. I don't have a good feel for how good EKU and JSU are. To get to six (if we split with Lamar), we have to catch three of these teams off-balance.
Tarleton destroyed McNeese last year; we'd be fortunate to win that game. The SFA game is a toss-up, but the Jacks had a terrific game plan against us on both sides of the ball the last time we saw them. A breakthrough win against UCA would be terrific.
If things go badly, the Cats are struggling to get to 4 wins and trying to keep someone out of the playoff picture. But if that fourth win is against Sam late in the year, then all is well. But on paper, before anyone takes a snap and there are any injuries, I don't see how the Cats pull out that victory. I'd almost think that we have better odds of a victory over the Mustangs than over Bearkats at this point.

Interestingly, also learned that Jacksonville State’s Week 2 game is at Florida State. An FCS opening the season with back-to-back FBS games is sure to get plenty of bruises and $’s.
