I was glad to see the blowout win against Lamar. I think the coaches will handle any cockiness that might try to set in, but I believe it will bring the idea that they can be competitive against most anyone. Other than the 4th and 2 hand off up the middle, I believe the play calling was the best I’ve seen in the last 2 seasons. I do realize that Lamar does not have the best defense, but we kept them on their heels all night. If we can continue to cause turnovers, not turn it over ourselves, then we have an excellent shot against UCA and I’m predicting a Wildcats victory by 6.

The more physical team will win. Wildcats by 10.

Interesting notes from UCA press conference today. Does this mean they will take us lightly?

Interesting notes from UCA press conference today. Does this mean they will take us lightly? I don’t know. There are a few more quotes in the full thread. My favorite was that ACU is a “bend-but-don’t break” defense. I guess I’ve always assumed that meant something different.

I'm thinking after Saturday Brown will be able to say "the 1st 5 games were the roughest part of their season."

Based on Brown’s relationship with Ken Collums (Coach Collums was position coach as a player) and the fact that ACU parted ways with Coach Collums in favor of Coach Dorrel, I personally believe there is no more important game on UCA’s.

You guys hold down the fort for my wife and I on Saturday. She has to work this weekend so we won’t be making the drive to Abilene. Will definitely be watching from the comfort of either the sofa or bed. We’ll be there for Homecoming.

I have been buoyed by the performance of the Wildcats the past 2 weeks. ACU has won the 3 games I thought we would win and I think the ‘Cats will win another game or two this season. However, I don’t think this game is one of those — I pick UCA over ACU 31-21.
I plan on being in Abilene for the game. If we can win this game, then prospects for a winning season go up exponentially.

Two keys to the game IMO—
- can our pass rush force Smith to scramble? He’s lethal if he has enough time but has thrown his share of interceptions when on the run.
-Can we establish the run? Our stats are balanced this year but we clearly prefer to use the run to set up the pass.
Prediction- UCA will score on us, as they have on everyone. Will we be able to keep pace? I like our chances if we keep UCA to less than 30 points.

I guess I’ve always assumed that meant something different. Maybe Brown was expressing his hope we would play on our heels, not blitz, keep the ball in front of us and hope we stop them even as we give up chunks of yardage. I’m hopeful we play the more aggressive, opportunistic brand of defense we showed against Lamar. UCA’s OL has struggled this year. I’d like to see us take advantage of this and attack more, looking for QB hurries or sacks.

Bend but don’t break? Interesting take considering that the Cats had 8 TFL against Lamar.

If we attack the ball like we did the last two weeks, I like think we make it interesting.
