Package deal. Art and Kendall Briles! We’ll be National Champs by 2024!! Heck yeah!! No way Art is going to be the face of the program but Kendall?!? Respectfully disagree. If Hugh F. gets a successful do-over @ Liberty, Art gets one as well, and no better place than ACU. Meanwhile, you only get Kendall with Art, IMHO.

Tech is already getting bad pub for considering him for their position.

Fact. The Briles are much too controversial for ACU. Kendall is a terrific coach, however.

I think more than anything we need a Coach who can recruit. I believe that was Dorrel's down fall. Find a young coach with a lot of energy or an experienced coach who knows how to build a team from zero. One that especially can recruit Texas. We need someone with lots of Texas high school ties. Or one that will hire assistants with lots of Texas ties. I think it hurt us to have our main coaches all be from out of state. We made the decision to move to D1. Not sure we have been willing to spend the money needed to be successful in D1 football. We'll see if that changes. Between location, academic standards, and religious designation, ACU is not an easy place to recruit enough athletes to be a football power. Hoping we find the right guy.

JDB and Kittley are both young FBS coaches and their trajectories seem to both be trending upward. I doubt you would be able to get either. Not because the $$$ would be a problem but because I believe they are both smart enough not to take that job at this point in their careers. Neither have Head Coaching experience, neither have experience assembling a staff, and both might be wary of undertaking such a challenge at this point in their careers. Looking for a qualified candidate with ACU ties may be a pipe dream as that list is quite short and it seems unlikely that anyone on it would jump at the chance to run the program. ACU does present a specific set of challenges, however, that is all the more reason to find a man who FITS, imposing arbitrary restrictions like FBS, FCS, might hinder that process. The one qualification that should matter above all else is a proven record of success in recruiting!

Re: Art Briles, if he went forward after the preacher’s sermon at your congregation asking for prayers, would you tell him “No”?
Art can:
-coach! -recruit!! -win!!! -get students to attend games!!!!
Those who’d be critical of the hire ain’t comin’ to ACU’s games anyhow!!!!!

Those who’d be critical of the hire ain’t comin’ to ACU’s games anyhow!!!!! You can include covering up major ethical issues (the kindest way I can describe the situations at Baylor) to that list. If ACU hires a Briles, that would save me some money because I would not renew my season tickets or give any money to the program while either Briles would be here. ACU would deserve every ounce of criticism they would receive by hiring Briles.

Those who’d be critical of the hire ain’t comin’ to ACU’s games anyhow!!!!! I don't think the public feels like Art Briles ever "went forward" asking for prayers or forgiveness. He has never admitted to his major role in the wrongdoings, at least from every interview I've heard or read. It would take some major cajones for a football program to hire him. Especially one with Christian in its name. I don't think our new AD needs that thrown in his lap in his first month on the job. I believe in forgiveness. But I also believe that the leadership at ACU is responsible for ACU athletics having a positive public image. We have a hard enough time with that in today's society. I don't want to add easy ammunition.

Please tell me no one here actually believes that we would have a snowballs chance of hiring either Briles in the first place….

Please tell me no one here actually believes that we would have a snowballs chance of hiring either Briles in the first place…. A year ago Art was head coach of a 3A Texas high school. He hasn't exactly had schools beating his door down to hire him.

I agree with others that have said we would lose money cause I know many people who would have no issue denouncing ACU after a move like this. I think one thing that we haven't mentioned thus far in the conversation because we maybe take it for granted, we need a coach of high character. Dorrel had that, but we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water and immediately sell our souls for a better football team. I would say the same thing about Gary Patterson who I believe was mentioned by someone. Winning does not equal success if it costs the school in reputation and moral standing.

People may not like it but I’d take Art Briles.
People want: - a winner - someone who can recruit - someone with ACU ties who went to school here
Art checks those boxes.

This might get some jeers, but if we are okay hiring a coach who helped to cultivate a culture of cover-ups, sexual assault, and willful ignorance, then we really have our priorities severely out-of-wack. Let me be clear. The man is partially responsible for protecting rapists. I am all for forgiveness and grace, but that does not at all mean putting this man back in a position of power such as he once had. I think it is absurd that his is a name even being mentioned. What kind of backwards thinking would it take to hire this man effectively saying he is fit to serve as a leader on this campus and within this community while turning around and discriminating against LGBTQ+ students when it comes to particular jobs on campus?
