Two weeks later and only one hire thus far. Houston you aren't allowed to be worried about that. He's asking people what their Why is I guess I’m attempting to stay out of this coaching speculation. But I’m worried and already tired of hearing about what’s your why… My WHY’s…why don’t we have any football staff members named, why do we not have any player commitments, why are we losing quality starting players, why do we hear crickets chirping from ACU leader ship regarding KP and his coaching staff. All this site is talking about is coach possibilities sorry to say it’’s frustrating when nothing is coming out from the University. Unfortunately, from KP‘s past stops as a DC…I foresee a defense that gives up close to 30 points per game and yes I know Tech doesn’t care about defense… But finishing no better than eighth and ninth out of 10 teams in defense each season is never good. If you want a positive regarding tech’s Total defense numbers in the big 12, they finished above Kansas Jayhawks. If those defensive numbers remain constant we will not have a good 2022 season. On the bright side I was able to ascertain Zach likes Christian and 80s music from his Convos with the cats interview. Merry Christmas to all…

Went back and read some of the thread from when Clint Brown was hired. He said in his press conference he wanted to be an aggressive defense. Most thought the hire was a good one. A coach from an established solid FCS school coming to ACU. Some mentioned other message boards calling his defense a bend but don’t break. Clearly our defense was not aggressive the past two years and more bend but don’t break. Who knows what happens, hopefully KP knows, but as of now I have minimal expectations.

You mean it's possible that coaches say things in press conferences that we want to hear but don't actually implement or fulfill those comments?

That answer is as predictable as any coach speak. Ask a kid what his 40 time is and if he is a skilled position player it’s 4.4 and if he’s a linebacker or TE it’s a 4.6. QB that isn’t a tall pocket passer is 4.5-4.7.

I was one that had very high hopes for coach Brown, but ended up watching our defense and shaking my head over and over. At times we would play aggressively during games and attack the ball. Most of the time, we played way too far off, and played bend but don't break; then got burned when we did. I know we had flashes of good defense, but it wasn't consistent. How much of that was coach Brown? How much of that were other factors once he got here?

The players I've spoken have indicated that the team held Coach Brown in much higher regard than AD.

So often style of play is dictated by personnel. It was AD who thought we should have smaller, quicker d-linemen. Again, a d2 mindset. Most d2 O-lines are not especially athletic so smaller guys can dominate. But even in FCS we see a bunch of athletic 300 pounders and our 260 lbs DTs just couldn’t hang with them.
I thought our defense overachieved this year. Lack of size and depth just wore them down.

My thoughts thus far—-
1. The idea of hiring a chief operations and S&C coach before position coaches is a good one provided the ‘pool’ for assistants can accommodate the new position.
2. I’m particularly interested in who we hire for OC, given the new coach’s background is defense. This goes back to liking for a guy familiar with Texas-style offenses a la Leach or a disgraced former coach from Baylor whose name we shall remain nameless. A really good HS coach from Texas might work well here, for both recruiting and style of play. ‘
3. I’m as nervous as anyone that we won’t seriously be in the mix for early signing day. However, given the ‘free agency’ status the portal provides this won’t necessarily handicap us too badly going forward.
4. Right now, it’s the uncertainly of it all…..get thatvS&C guy hired; the one with recent experience in the Alabama weight room, please’

Why would our program be hyped. UIW is making a case for being one of the up and coming FCS programs in the country. They caught lightning in a bottle with Morris. They hope to duplicate that by hiring a clone. Morris is special. No guarantee that Kinne can do as well but it’s a really good hire IMO. Reading about Morris and the Cards, it’s clear that while ACU was investing in first rate facilities, UIW invested in first rate coaches and other personnel. I’m hoping that KP is the first of those investments for ACU.
Speculation, of course, but i’m betting that much of his staff is involved in bowl games and won’t be announced until they are done. At least i hope so.
