What’s the thing you most hope to see in the new staff—
Texas, My Texas. Guys on offense who are familiar with Texas style offenses. Guys with roots in Texas Hugh school ball who can recruit, particularly the metroplex. You cannot out coach recruiting and every coach is a recruiter. AD never got this point and it took a toll.

Guys with roots in Texas Hugh school ball who can recruit, particularly the metroplex. You cannot out coach recruiting and every coach is a recruiter. AD never got this point and it took a toll. No matter who is hired, I hope that everyone will remember this. There are 2 groups of people that want ACU football to succeed more than anyone- the coaches and the players. None of them go into it not wanting to give their best. No one is more disappointed when the game plan doesn't work. No one feels more joy when they succeed. They all want the top recruits. The offense and defense called is designed around the strengths and weaknesses of the players. It's real easy to make calls from the stands when you don't know every detail of the players abilities and possible injuries. Support your team. Believe that they are giving their best. Know that it will not be perfect and support them any way. The coaches and players are not commodities to buy, sell, and trade. They are people. They are excited to start this new journey. Please be excited with them. They say that fans want to be close enough to get all of the benefits but not so close that it requires anything from them. Please remember the coaches and players are sacrificing their time, minds, and bodies for your entertainment. They are 100% invested. It is so much easier to succeed when you are encouraged and supported instead of put down and criticized. That's true for all of us! Happy New Year!

I'm really excited (and a little anxious) to hear who will be on our new coaching staff. Will there be FBS experienced coaches, young up and comers, a mixture of both? Will we have some Texas experienced recruiters? Will there be coaches who have worked with KP before or has he reached out to a coaching network for recommendations? Will the entire staff be announced or just key coordinators and position coaches? Will we be given a clue as to how we'll recruit and have these guys already been active? So many things on the line. Big day tomorrow.

Big day tomorrow. Just from watching sports news the norm seems to be to announce coaching hires one or two at a time. It is pretty exciting to do it all at once…ok, here’s the whole packsge.

Interesting that Cumbie has hired two ex-ACU coaches--Nathan Young and Scott Parr. I wonder if Joe Sloan former OC at LaTech was a candidate for the ACU job. He certainly would be familiar to the Anthonys.

Looks like David Yost is headed to FIU as OC. I was hoping…… Wouldn't mind seeing Luke Wells on the offensive staff (from what I can tell he's plugged into Texas HS football) but he will probably follow big bro to his next gig.

First one Skyler Cassity is the DC and will coach Safeties Cassity coming from Missouri State where he has coached on the defensive side of the ball in 2020 and 2021. He was at Texas Tech 2017-19. He graduated from Auburn where he was a student assistant and recruiting assistant. He is from Atlanta, Ga., and he comes from a collegiate coaching family. Here is his bio on MSU website.

First one Skyler Cassity is the DC and will coach Safeties Younger than I expected. Looks like he was a graduate assistant under KP at Tech. Looks like for his career, he has been a student assistant or graduate assistant from 2016 to 2019. Then 2 years as a linebackers coach at Missouri State. I will be honest, I would not have expected a DC with only 2 years of experience as a coach outside of being a GA. With this hire, I assume that KP will still be acting as DC even without the title.

Not going to assume anything. Cassidy Skyler grew up with a dad who was DC at 7 different FBS schools over a 40 year period and has gotten experience coaching DB's at TT (under Patterson), DL and recruiting at Texas St and LB's at Missouri St. Sounds like a young man who has known defense all his life. Excited to see how this pans out.

I count 17 players with Texas roots on the Missouri State roster. They have been recruiting as hard as any FCS program in our state for some time. I would think Skyler has more than a few ties to Texas players and coaches.
