It's time again for a timeless neighbor showdown, this time in Stephenville. Massey has us as a 60% favorite by 4 points. Our games with the Texans can always go either way. They can both throw and run it. Their issue has been consistency. Last year we pressured them VERY well and got the better of them. I am hoping we can do the same. They got creamed by Sam on Saturday, even with some good plays. Again, they just couldn't sustain the level of play needed and were simply outgunned. Hopefully we are healthy and are ready to go. I know I will be at the game.

Tarleton's biggest problem against Sam Houston was that they could not hold onto the ball. They threw for 3 intercaptions and had 6 fumbles of which they lost 3. Sam Houston lost 1 fumble. When the turnover raio is -5, you are going to have a problem staying competitive.

Yeah, kinda remember the turnover issue with them from our game last year: 6 fumbles with 4 lost.

That is spot on. Shake up the QB and get 3rd and long or interceptions.

Yep, keep the pressure going all night. That, and don't make mistakes/penalties. If we can do those things and protect the ball we should be in good shape.

Tarleton always makes me nervous because they have athletes, it is just a matter of how well they play together as a team.

A few stats for the game:
Tarleton enters the game 5-3 overall and 1-1 in WAC play. The Texans played two D2 teams, winning both: Eastern N.M. (41-6) and SW Baptist (24-10). Both games in Stephenville.
The offense is averaging 30.13 points per game. TSU is averaging 429.5 yards per game on offense, including 167.3 on the ground and 262.25 in passing. Derrel Kelley leads the team with 95 rushes for 602 yards (6.3 per touch, 75.25 per game). He has four TDs. Mookie Douglas has 59 caries for 268 yards while Deangelo Rosemond (55-250) and Beau Allen (53-113) also have 50-plus carries. Allen leads the team in passing (136-243-10) with 2,051 yards and 17 TDs. He averages 256.38 yards per game passing. Allen's top receiver is Jaden Smith with 41 catches for 757 yards (18.46) and eight TDs (94.63 YPG). Darius Cooper is next with 37-720 and seven scores. He averages 19.46 per catch and 90 per game.
The defense is giving up 29.63 points per game. TSU is allowing 400.1 yards per game, including 229.63 in the air and 170.5 on the ground. D.J. Harris leads the team with 66 total tackles and Qua'Shawn Washington has 58 while Patrick Jones has 54. Washington leads the team with 8.0 tackles for loss of 19 yards while Jones is tops with three sacks (-20). The defense has six INTs on the season, 57 tackles for loss of 233 yards with 18 sacks for -128 yards. The Texans have forced and recovered six fumbles and blocked one kick.
ACU is 5-3 and 2-0 in the WAC. The Wildcats are averaging 27 points per game and allowing 21.38. ACU is averaging 164 yards on the ground and 231.5 yards through the air for a total of 395.5 yards per game. Dobbins tops the team with 136 carries for 724 yards rushing (5.3 per carry, 90.5 per game). Banks is second in rushing with 81-326 (4.0, 46.57). McIvor is 130-224-7 for 1,509 yards and 11 TDs, averaging 188.63 yards per game. Clark leads the team with 44 catches for 431 yards and five TDs. He is averaging 53.88 yards per game while Golightly tops the team with YPG with 54.88 (25-439). Taylor (17-26) and Catalon (18-224) are third and fourth, respectively.
The defense is allowing 346.6 yards per game, including 116.8 rushing and 229.88 passing. Bradley leads the team with 35 tackles while Young (34), Moffett (33) and Hargrove (32) all have 30 or more. Morgan leads the squad with nine tackles for loss (-20) and Bradley and Hargrove are tied for the team lead with three sacks a piece. The defense has recorded 52 tackles for a loss of -179 yards, including 15 sacks for -88.
I feel like this one will come down to controlling their QB (as has been said), but also to composure. We have to keep our cool and not have stupid penalties. (or none at all would be great). We have 39 penalties this year for -365 yards, averaging 45.63 per game. The Texans have 39-360, averaging 45.0 per game. We need to control ourselves and keep the composure. Getting our running game established and making them run will also be important.
I see Tarleton losing their second home game in a row, 35-24.

It will be tough to have Qua'Shawn play against us. I am not surprised at his stats and I still wish he was a Wildcat...

The game will come down to who controls the ball, and themselves, the best.
