They are just now starting to show up in stores. Probably in the DFW area first.

Having lunch tomorrow with 2 ACU hall of famers; Dennis Richardson and Kirby Jones. Have not seen either in many years. We were terrors on the softball diamond in the mid to late 70's.

Dennis was in my class. Really nice guy. Great sprinter. He had really powerful legs. Very impressive thighs. I'm pretty sure that he was on the world record setting team in the 800 relay set at the Texas Relays in '61 or '62. Last saw him at an ACU/Texas Rangers night in Arlington several years ago. Would love to see him. Please ask him about Sam Gafford and post what he says. Bet that he can't still run a 9.3 100.

Dennis was a stud sprinter at ACU. When ACC won the 440 relay, 880 relay and the mile relay at the Texas Relays in one year, Dennis was the leadoff leg for ACU each time. Earl Young was the anchor leg on each one and Earl was named the Texas Relays MVP, but Dennis played just as big a role. Dennis can really spin a story, when you finally get him to open up. I wish that ACU still had the representation at the Texas Relays that we once had -- back in the mid-50's through the 60's the ACC contingent at the Relays was 2nd only to UT. I know that I am still there every year, but there are very few, if any, ACU old-timers there.
Kirby was the tight end on the 1977 national championship team and he was a superb tight end (ACU had a string of terrific tight ends through the 70's). One of the nicest guys in the world.
Have fun seeing them both, Bogey.

Oh the memories of going down to Austin to watch the Wildcats compete so well. My older brother used to take me when I was still in high school. The longhorns sitting around us openly acknowledged the amazing rivalry and the powerful Wildcat teams -- it was sublime.

I can attest to their softball prowess. I played on a rival team and we had some fierce games. I think Bogey’s team mostly won about that time although we got a lot better a few years later finishing 2nd in State in 1983. Toothdoc played on our team. Excellent left handed hitter. We also picked up Kirby a couple of times to play in tournaments.
So say hi for me, as well.

Dallasalum--you are more than an occassional person to Dennis. He speaks highly of you. And I wouldn't put it past Richardson to still run a pretty competitive 100 yd dash at 82.

Really had a good visit with Kirby and Dennis. Reconnecting is always good. Seeing Sam Ferguson for a tour of Moody this p.m. and with coach Shaw tomorrow.

Take a look over the security fence at SERC, which will house the research reactor. Scientists from around the country come to see it. One of the major university nuclear engineering chairs confided to me yesterday that the labs made him envious. That was cool.

Pretty full afternoon. Got to watch both ladies volleyball and men's basketball practice, then watched DB's going thru their paces later. Talked to coach Tanner (he wasn't happy with the teams progress--I'll say). Also visited with our new volleyball coach as Sam Ferguson showed me around. IJ is very impressive;poised and personable. Met both Sadie Eichelberger and Madison Rohre (Sam said they were part of ACU's dream team). The new Moody is really impressive as is the campus in general. Saw JFrank and Coryon Mason working with the team. Manny Allen was there but wasn't working out (as Cattitude said). Walking with a noticeable limp. Impressions of what I saw from the team :Leo Bettiol will be a force--very, very hard worker will incredible skills in the paint. Ma'Shy Hill was a little slow and needs some bulk but you can tell he's a player. Airion Simmons was working hard and Hunter Jack Madden impressed. Cam Steele was holding his own in the paint but kept missing chippies. When he took 10 footers, he was deadly. We'll see how this team comes together. Just came to me that I didn't notice Mo Muoeneke.

Spent 3 really good hours with coaches Shaw and Bennett. Exciting to hear them talk about their teams. Coach Bennett thinks his brand new team will be at the top of the WAC and could win several tourneys in their first year. He already has three top echelon recruits committed for next year. Coach Shaw thinks last year was an aberration and this year's team will be much better. He sees his possible top 5 as the transfer from Tennessee, one of his freshmen, the two sophs from France and Brian Comegys. I think he is still unsure about Zane and Charlie Jackson and Jaime Lewis will challenge for spots. Could be a really strong team that is capable of winning conference.
