Where is everyone? 4 new posters this year for game #1. 17 CatChat members who posted about game #1 last year are silent this year--what gives? Surely you guys and gals have some input. I miss wildcat86's detailed analysis. I miss mavsman53's player reports. How loud was the music dallasalum? kitten, were you impressed with the depth we showed? Did we have banana pudding or were the tacos stale? Attendance was about 700 more than last year but seems we ought to be above 8,000 for most games.

I have very mixed feelings. (And if he’s someone on this board, then I apologize for my foot in mouth issue.)

Last year there was a pregame interview with coach Patterson and a post game interview. In times past there has been a coaches show. Does anyone know if any of that will happen this year?

Attendance was low but it was also a Thursday night which I think kept quite a few people away. And it was rice pudding…not my first choice😀

I don't think we "let up" defensively. I'd say our initial adrenaline wore off. We played at such a high level in the 1st quarter that it was hard to sustain. We'll get better playing all 4 quarters as the season wears on. This was a very good opener for us. It showed that we have the athletes to compete at a very high level. Will be fun to see us develop throughout the season. 1) I think the mistakes that our defense began making in the 3rd quarter speaks against some of this to a degree, as well as the conditioning that our coaches and players have been bragging about. 2) The only thing would speak FOR this would be the two DL players limping out late in the 4th qtr. 3) But, back against this is the mistakes we made by letting them convert multiple 3rd and 4th downs in a row when we had them pegged 3rd and long consistently. Once or twice in between forced punts and I think our defense is maintaining its aggressiveness and scheme, but when it happens that many times in a row, there is more going on. Whether it's letting up, or simply failing in carrying through schematically or poor execution I am not sure. I do think it's more than just the adrenaline wearing off and I do think we will make adjustments and corrections. Over-all, our defense was still very productive. It also still needs cleaned up though. I would agree that being able to sustain that level of activity for 4 full quarters will improve, it will have to.

My posts were all in the 1st quarter, before leaving to attend a grandson's football game. Would have loved to have been in Abilene for the game, but grandson took precedence. Therefore, I am only able to comment on the 1st quarter and it was just about as dominant as any quarter I have seen in the D-1 era for ACU (not counting any of those games against McM or Concordia of Alabama). Based on that the first quarter only, this can be a very good Wildcat team. Right now, I feel guardedly optimistic.
I do hope to watch the PVAM game and plan on being in the stands for the UIW game.

Already have my ticket for PVAM and can't wait for both it and UIW, just like I can't wait for all the games this year. Everyone knows this team can be something special.

We scored in the 3rd quarter to make it 31 - 3. From that point it was neither adrenaline nor fatigue. We shifted from an aggressive, in your face blitzing defense to just rushing four and sometimes 3 and keeping behind the Bears. Even so, they only scored once, helped by a 15 yard penalty. Backups were played liberally. Indeed, penalties were a problem but that’s fairly easy fix. I didn’t see any mistakes or blown coverage - just a defense that didn’t give up anything cheap.

I finished watching the replay a little while ago. Didn't get to watch it live because my local high school team played last night too. I was super impressed with our running backs and thought the offensive line did a good job opening up holes. Wasn't as pleased with the numerous penalties against the line. I thought the D line was a huge improvement over previous years also. Maverick would have had a great game if some of his short passes had been more accurate but he didn't make mistakes and ran the show well. I thought their QB was pretty good also. Extremely accurate with most of his passes.

I personally want to commend Jay’Veon Sunday, number 0, and the running back core The second and third efforts after first contact were something to behold. It has been a while, since I have seen such a performance by an ACU running attack. Our defense is also getting to be fun to watch imho.
