Tackling is a problem. But 4 turnovers is not a problem. Allowing 13 points is not a problem. The defense is NOT miserable. Not sure what you guys are watching. If we win this game it’s because of the defense. Tackling was actually better than it had been in a little while in the 1st half. 2nd half they ran the ball on us at will. The defense wasn't miserable, but it needs to continue to shore up some things, especially at the line.

Happy for the win but gonna have to play a lot better to beat SFA and even Tarleton. The Utah schools are kind of a mystery to me but we can't afford to relax against anyone. The same for me. We needed this win. It was a sloppy, blah, game for the most part for the first 3/4 of it. There were some really good defensive plays here and there. Our kicking continues to be out of sight. Still, our play calling remains suspect most of the time and we still had trouble finishing plays. I thought our OL struggled today, but they were pressured hard. UNA had a lot of really talented athletes and really sound foundation. We are going to be playing harder teams coming up though, beginning next week. We need to take this win and celebrate it, then get back to work and shore up our loose ends while keeping our energy high.

Good win. Lots of positives. Tackling does need work. Dudley is going to be a player. Vaughn needs to be used more, maybe some as an outlet receiver for Maverick. Why didn't we have this kicking game last year? As most of us thought we do have a pretty good linebacking corp. Someone needs to tell Carlisle and Penny to identify ACU tacklers when they make a play and also to identify who is in the game as play goes on. Banks starting surprised them, never identified Pullen, who played most, if not all, the 2nd half. Anyone know who #71 is? Played on special teams but not listed on the roster. This was a needed win and we need to be better to beat SFA (who lost by 3 to UCA). Many positives, a few negatives. Hoping this is a springboard to a great finish.

Was at the game, and my opinion is we had the best athletes for sure, even though we dropped a lot of passes. But we are not a well-disciplined team. So many fouls that it seems like our players have not been well coached. I hate to opine such a thing but sitting with a great football coach who agreed with me sort of confirms what I thought. He was more disappointed with it than I was. When we do something right, we often would draw a penalty. I think players should have to put in a little penalty time at the next workout if they commit silly penalties. I admit the officials were not the best we have had, but thank goodness one of them, who could have called a penalty, actually chased after two of our players celebrating and escorted them off the field. Pretty amateurish behavior that would not be tolerated in the past.
I could not figure out the NAU coach who was always arguing with the officials. He did some yelling and he repeatedly argued with officials. NAU did have several plays that were almost very good but were ruled a dropped pass or some other misstep. I thought the officials would have called a penalty on their coach when he argued so strongly. There will likely be some complaining about the game from their fan base.
NAU was actually very good at running plays that our defense did not recognize developing. They often deceived our defense by clearing an area but then completing a pass into the vacated zone. After a couple of times being caught by the deception, I thought we would not fall for it later in the game, but we did. The good news is we had a remarkable day intercepting passes and a key fumble and that likely was a critical reason for a score that was more lopsided than play on the field. A lot of relief when we had such a fine fourth quarter. A hard-fought win for sure.

Discipline has been a big issue for us lately. It's part of our loose ends. Today, UNA had more over-all yards than us, more pass yards, more rush yards and basically the same amount of penalty yards. Our turnovers, and ability to turn them into points was the difference.

Defensive thoughts.
1-3 in the last month. Our defense gave us a chance against UIW in the first half against a Power 5 QB. Our entire team failed to get off the bus in Arkansas. I don’t put much stock in playing a Group of 5 team in Denton. This was a “save the season” game for us and we won because our defense took the ball away 5 times and gave up 13 points. We are not an elite defense but all things considered, happy with that.
Offensive thoughts.
Maverick is not an elite quarterback but he is more than capable of being serviceable if the pieces around him do there jobs.
We have a stable of RBs that we need to continue to rotate and ride the hot hand.
Our wideouts are KILLING us. Dropped balls. Bad body language. Lack of playmaking. If we want to sniff a quality season, they need to get it turned around quickly.
TEs seem underutilized to me. Two big and seemingly talented kids to get involved.
Offensive line has been ok but disappointing overall. I feel like all we heard about this fall camp was that our OLs were going to roll people and I haven’t really seen that. They need to step up and dominate people.
We have a good kicking game because we have a good kicker. Last year, we did not have a good kicker. All you can really say there.
Overall, playoffs could very well be out of reach. Especially with Tarelton blowing the win over EKU today. But, I believe we can still build off of last year and put together a solid football season.

I don't know all the schedules but someone needs to knock off UCA. Do they play Eastern Ky, Austin Peay and UNA? If they don't lose, do we have a chance even if we were to run the table?

I know for sure that EKU, UCA, and Austin Peay all need to get beat for us to have a chance. After that, it gets fuzzy. I think if we beat a team that is able to beat UCA, that is helpful for us but all the tiebreakers get confusing.

Upon reflection, I think a major reason we were able to win this game included the far superior kicking game the Wildcats had over UNA. We have a pro level kicker it looks like to me. Over at the UNA discussion page they bemoaned their kicking and also blamed the refs and their quarterback for their loss. They even said we were not as good as Tarleton.

UCA plays EKU and Peay the last 2 games of the year. They also play UNA and Tarleton. EKU and Peay play each other the previous week as well. Run the table and we could very well tie for first. Unless there is an upset, looks like the best we could hope for will be 4-way tie for 1st. In that scenario, I can’t imagine that we would get the ticket to the playoffs. We would be 0-1 against the other 3, UCA would be 2-1 and EKU and Peay would be 1-1. Plus, having higher ratings than the other 3 is unlikely. Don’t rule out Tarleton, Southern Utah, and Utah Tech. Only SFA and UNA with 3 conference losses look to be out of the running. Could be a crazy last couple of weeks. Our job is to win out and let the chips fall.

Does anyone know anything about any injuries that we had in the game or at practices prior to the game? I know that Reece Young suffered a broken hand, I believe in the 1st quarter. Apparently Jehmiah still was not healed up. Also, anyone know why Jay'Veon Sunday only had 3 or 4 (approx.) carries early in the game and was never in the game after that. Didn't see him get hurt. He had a great game against UNT.
