Not pretty and not particularly enjoyable to watch but I'll take a close win over SFA. And even better that was at their place.

I don't know that much about football but it seems a 3-3-5 works best with very talented linebackers who sometimes blitz -- right? We did get a critical sack near the end on a blitz. I think we have some fine LBs but they don't blitz often. What do I not understand?

I think they do have to sit out a half next game. I think the win tonight is in large part due to our defensive backs. They did a good job. Great run by Sunday and a super pass and catch by McIvor and Blaine Taylor. Taylor might well be a receiver in the NFL sometime. I knew that McIvor was going to have to run the ball a few times to keep SFA honest and keep our offense going. It did just enough when we needed it. I agree, our DBs have played really well and our defense finally started getting some pressure.

On their forum, they are livid. I get it. We think we aren't having the season we expect. They are there for the 2nd season in a row and were counting on this win. I still always give credit to SFA though.

Another multiple turnover game. 3-3-5 needs to bring a little chaos which it seems we are failing to do consistently. But it also gives you the ability to drop 8 into coverage while still having 7 defenders relatively close to the box. I’m an offensive guy but I believe the Stack is meant to take longer for the defense to feel settled and I think we are seeing that this season. As long as they keep finding turnovers, you’ll hear nothing from me.
This is mavericks 2nd year in the offense. I do not believe we will see significant improvement from him as a QB. However, he appears to have resilience and seems to find a way to do what it takes to keep things interesting. However, if we are not able to establish the run, we will be toast moving forward. Recievers must make plays for him when called upon and they look like a pretty mentally soft group in my opinion.
I believe our keys to victory are run the ball and find turnovers. Regardless of the opponent.
All that matters now is beating Southern Utah. We certainly could accomplish this.

RC I will try and answer your question. I think the DL is a work in progress. Remember, we didn't have a DL coach for most of the spring semester, if not all of it. The 3 on the DL are doing what they are supposed to do; take on OL and create room for the LBs to make tackles. Ideally, you would like at least 1 LB to be a consistent player coming after the QB. The best one is probably Coheley, but they line him up in the middle most often. I think that will be a big recruiting piece when the season is over.
One thing that the staff made an adjustment with in the 2nd half was the alignment of the LBs. They are lining up too close to each other, which makes it easier for an OL to get to them or get in their way. But in the 2nd half, they were more spread out, which is the way it should occur.
Big props to R. Young playing with 1 hand. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult that must have been

I still always give credit to SFA though. I can see why they would be livid. I'm sure they feel like they should have won the game. Not sure we "deserved" to win but they certainly didn't "deserve" the last 3 wins they've had against us.

At least we keep fighting. Maybe X comes in with some fresh legs. Was he dressed out? X didn't travel to SFA. Out with COVID.

Maverick looks like a totally different guy this half. I think Rovaughn could carry the load for the rest of this half -- and, it would help greatly if Jermiah can get a few carries. Jermiah is still not 100%. Hopes to be this next game.

ACU pulls out a game we really needed. It was not a thing of beauty, but a win is a win. And, there were a few really good plays -- that TD pass/reception to Taylor was a thing of beauty. So now, will Sunday and Dudley, who have both been playing really well in the last 3 games, have to sit out the first half of the next game? Yes they will.

I didn't realize until I looked at the game stats that the leading tackler for ACU was Colt Cooper (9 tackles, 1 sack). Colt started out the year as a TE and he has picked up the DE spot quickly. A very athletic kid.
Even with some quibbles about some of the coaching decisions, this game certainly showed that the team has grit. The coaching staff did some team soul-searching after the UCA and it seems to be making a difference -- two wins against FCS opponents and a loss to a FBS team. There are definitely some good signs.

Just wondering, who caught their messed up squib kick? That was a great catch on our front line.

I've enjoyed reading the comments on the SFA fan site where they are jealous of our kicker. Makes field goals AND kicks out of the end zone on kickoffs.
