There have been a couple of FCS wins over FBS teams on opening weekend--Portland State over Washington State and South Dakota State over Kansas. Sorry it wasn't us, but still good for the subdivision to kill off a few of the rich and powerful P5 squads. Portland State over Washington State South Dakota State over Kansas Add North Dakota over Wyoming.

Part of me wishes we would play a Kansas or UTEP instead of Baylor and A&M. I understand the attraction for recruiting in playing against known names but beating the Jayhawks or Miners is much more likely and seems like it would get us more positive press than if we get blown out by Baylor or A&M. Not saying we will get blown out but those games will be tough. If we were coming off a 7-3 or better season then I could see us gunning for the big schools a little more.

Three (three). Hundred (Hundred). Seventy (Seventy). Five (Five). Thousand (Thousand). It will be interesting year after next when the SLC changes to an eight game schedule. That will mean 3 OOC games. In 2018 bw (before Ward). There was conversation about one big money game, one FBS two year home and home and one additional home game of some sort. We’ll see how that holds up.

A lot can change from the time games are scheduled until the year the game takes place. When we scheduled them, North Texas was down there with UTEP. Now they are a respectable FBS program vying for a bowl. Baylor under Briles was a contender for the B12 championship. Last year they won one game over Kansas. I think the attraction of playing big schools is money, along with recruiting and other things you mentioned.

I’m still disappointed we didn’t go to the model you outlined for next year, when we are still on a 9 game conference schedule but FCS teams are allowed we to play 12 games. I get the logistical challenges but we could have scheduled a FCS home game this year, with a return next year along with UNT (FBS) and Miss State (p5).

I can’t find the list right now but I read there were 10 FCS wins over FBS schools last week. Nicholls was the only FCS school to beat a school from one of the Power conferences. In Texas, Northern Arizona socked it to UTEP. Nicholls was the only SLC school to pick up a W. They will get another chance this weekend when they play Tulane.

Other than the possibility of Nicholls making it two in a row over Tulane, there’s Not much chance for another SLC win over a FBS opponent this weekend.
SLU plays LSU. UIW is at North Texas Lamar is at Texas Tech

I think Tulane will win, but you are right that it is about the only game with much of a possibility for a SLC victory over FBS this weekend.

I’m wondering who will get to 70 faster, UNT or Tech.
