offer lb cameron gonzaque? i saw his hit on msn! we need him! Are you related to him? What's with the spamming about this kid. He's not even very good. Hey, 86, don't get him mad. It said somewhere he was a preferred walk on ready to tread on that purple and silver rug over in Arkansas. He could start and put a hurtin on us next year.

In 2 weeks, I will start the 2017 recruiting thread. I expect us to try and add lots of DBs'. We currently have 3 CBs' that will be seniors and 3 safeties that will be seniors. DT will also be a spot we look at as Bloom and Edmondson will be seniors.

The better question is why would you think that coaches would offer a player based off what is said on this forum?

Okay, so I will bite. There is obviously a troll or trolls looking for some love for Cameron Gonzaque. Here is my take on him:
-He is famous mostly because of that one hit, which is truly all over the internet when you google Gonzaque. A QB squirms out of a pack of people and just as he gets free, Gonzaque (who up to that point had been out of the play completely) does lay a lick on the kid. He is shown with a few other good hits on his HUDL account. -The kid is self-reported on HUDL as 6-0, 220 and as running a 4.7. One can certainly add another tenth or two onto the HUDL 40 time. He is a MLB, which is certainly not a big need right now. -Looking at his twitter, one sees that he has been offered by University of the Cumberlands, a NAIA school that is in the same conference as Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL - a sister school to ACU where former Abilene Cooper QB Clayton Nicholas is now plying his craft. -Has Gonzaque been recruited by any of the bevy of D-II school in OK - SEO, SWO, NWO, Panhandle, Central, etc? I would think one of those schools might snap him up. -I would certainly think that ACU would not turn him down as a walkon next fall.
Okay, now that I have mentioned Clayton Nicholas, formerly of Abilene Cooper, formerly of Texas Tech, formerly of Bowling Green State and now of Faulkner U. He is a classic case of a guy that benefits from the 10-semester (non-contiguous) rule used in NAIA and D-II. Here is how it plays out for Nicholas:
-Fall of 2012 (1), spring of 2013 (2), fall of 2013 (3) and spring of 2014 (4) - Nicholas spends 2 years at Tech, first as a redshirt and then as a backup (4th or 5th string QB) - he never sees the field, so in NAIA eyes, he does not burn a year of eligibility -Fall of 2014 (5) - he transfers to Bowling Green State (another FBS school) and has to sit out due to transfer - he realizes he will not have a shot at starting or even backing up there and he transfers -Spring of 2015 (6) - he plays spring ball at Faulkner, an NAIA school that plays in the Mid-South Conference, a conference that features the University of the Cumberlands, the school that got me on this topic to begin with! He beats out the returning QB and stays at Faulkner. -Fall of 2015 (7) - Nicholas finally sees the field 4 years after his final HS season and throws for over 3,000 yards for Faulkner, he is listed in the program as a "Freshman" -- this spring he will have to take less than 12 hours and also cannot compete in spring ball with the team if he does not want to burn a year of eligibility -Fall of 2016 (8), Fall of 2017 (9), and Fall of 2018 (10) - he can repeat the above routine, never taking a full load or participating in spring ball and he could us all of his NAIA eligibility
So, it can be done, but it is not easy.

I don't follow all you say trackfan but OK..Glad some are benefitted by those rules. Wish Funk could have had another year but I think we have the horses upfront to overcome his loss. Hope he does well at Pitt State. How's he doing on his major? Surely after 5 years he's getting close to graduating.

Sorry, Bogey, I went into too much detail. The key points - D-I eligibility is based on the "NCAA clock" - an athlete has 5 years from the time they enroll for the first time as a full-time student in any school, to finish 4 years of eligibility. The clock can typically only be "paused" for military service or religious mission (the BYU exception). There are also some cases that see an athlete get a 6th year is 2 years lost to injury can be verified. The D-II and NAIA eligibility standard is that an athlete can have 10 semesters of being a full-time (12 hours or more) student to finish 4 seasons of eligibility. A few years ago ACU's Ben Gibbs decided to come out for football his junior year and ended up playing 3 years for ACU - he would not have been allowed to do that 3rd year under D-I rules.

Coaches are hard at work checking out 2017 prospects, for sure. And at least one RB reports an offer from the Wildcats.

I just saw a Tweet that said that ACU had gotten Carlton LaFrance, a 6-3, 255 DE from Saddleback CC in California. I saw on the Saddleback site that he played one season at Antelope Valley in 2013 and must have laid out a year. He shows to have a 4.63 40, pretty solid for a DE! He is from W. Jefferson HS in Louisiana originally.

Wow! This class keeps getting better. If we can keep em all, we'll be doing pretty good. Wonder if he's a soph or jun when he gets here. Now for 2 big ole rocks for the middle.

I'm excited for this announcement. I like his size and think he can fit in well as a DE.
