Schools in the Big 12 have already lined up a few commits for 2017. FCS schools are already courting prospects. Some have extended offers. That's the way it's done in D1, as we have recently been reminded in another thread. So let's think like a D1 board and get a 2017 recruiting thread underway.
What are our needs for 2017? Put another way, who do we graduate? Not that we are necessarily looking for a freshman to come in and start, but finding someone to replace the gaps left in the roster by departing seniors seems like a logical beginning point.
Our losses are minimal. I'm sure there will be a few others. Grades, injuries and transfers in search of more playing time elsewhere happen. Overall though it looks like next's year's class will be small. We lose 11 to graduation.
QB McKenzie WR Whitley OL Kees RB Duncan
DB Barnett DB Griffin DB Q Baker DB Q Walker DL Bloom
P Kilcullen DS Brodowsky
There is no heir apparent for either Kilcullen or Brodowsky, so special teams guys become a priority. We lose 5 DB's. Filling their spots on the roster with quality replacements seems important, at least for the longer term. Finding a quality QB to compete with Anthony for a starting job after Sealy graduates is another need since it takes a while to prepare a good qb.
TE Coy McMillon 6'4 260 Abilene HS

So I am guessing Omar Manning probably won't be coming to ACU as a freshman even with a good word from his relative Danieal. Young Mr. Manning just picked up an offer from Alabama, his 23rd so far.

I let him know that this ACU supporter was following him. I wasn't recruiting him 0075, just responding to his tweet as any friend would.

He's a JUCO Soph. It has to be for this fall. Just got an offer from Baylor, however.

Well he graduated in high school in 2015 which would make him a college freshman this year.

Ah. My bad. Did not read it carefully. Wonder if he might be qualified to transfer this fall? We really need another WR this year.

Top 5 states for recruiting. By number of blue chip players over the past 5 years. These states produced over half of the total number of blue chips.
Florida - 230 (14%) Texas - 225 (13.7%) California - 200 (12.2%) Georgia - 141 (8.6%) Ohio - 78 (4.8%)

Reading a Cowboys-centric article a few days ago on their allocation of their roster spots (53-man roster limit) and I couldn't help but see the parallels to our discussion of the allocation of our 63 scholarships. Coincidentally, the Cowboys and Wildcats are very similar in terms of roster-building. For example, we both run a 4-3 D where depth along the DL is valuable, and we both value the OL and put more resources there than any spot on the field. Here's how the Cowboys allocated their precious 53 spots over the years: Years | QB

If we choose to allocate our resources exactly as the Cowboys to, you could extrapolate that over 63 scholarships. It would look like this:
| QB
| RB
| WR
| TE
| FB
| OL
| DL
| LB
| CB
| S
| Specialists
|
| 3
| 4
| 6

| 8
| 5

| 3
|
If you decided to allocate our resources across 85 by splitting some scholarships, the number of bodies on at least some scholarship would look like this:
| QB
| RB
| WR
| TE
| FB
| OL
| DL
| LB
| CB
| S
| Specialists
|
| 4
| 6
| 9
| 6
| 1
| 15
| 17
| 10
| 7
| 7
| 4
|
By giving only full-rides, we end up with basically two-deep at every position with a few positions having 3. By splitting some of the scholarships and giving money to the max 85 players, we end up with a full three-deep at every position and a few positions having 4. Our coaches usually have 2-3 scholarships available at any time to give to a big-time player at short notice (see Jabari Butler), so we won't be FULLY allocated every year. Just some food for thought.

Very thoughtful analysis 86. It reinforces the perception that our current roster is woefully short of offensive linemen. I believe we are starting the year with ten on scholarship and two walk ons,
