He reminds me a lot of former AHS/ACU great Jerale Badon. His running style is eerily similar, even though one was a slot WR and the other is a RB. Enough speed to play, but there are lots of faster players. Jerald's game was built on cat-like quickness and uncanny balance. Jerale also had an unmatched work ethic, like no one I have every seen before. Smith moves a lot like Jerale did, he's just much bigger. If he can get near Badon's work ethic, he'll be special. With all that said, I wouldn't call him a speed back. He's an all around back, but he's not Zeke (lacks the elite top end speed). More like Emmitt. You mean the NFL all time leading rusher??? yea not special. I just read this. I'm confused. You seem to be taking exception to me comparing him to Emmitt Smith. Is that a bad thing? Zeke and Emmitt are both special RBs. Different styles, but both special. I was trying to note the difference, and compare Smith to Smith.

Wildcat90, is Abram still committing to Baylor? What I can tell, it hasn;t happened as of yet I looked at 247's Baylor recruiting list. Smith is a third tier target. They are also recruiting a stud 4 star RB. At ACU he would be a top of the class recruit. z Mavsman, Can you tell if we are actively recruiting Smith?

As of right now, it does not look like it, but it is still very early for our staff. I think we will hear about many names in the next couple of days

Adding to what I said earlier, I think the first 15-20 offers will tell us a lot about who our top targets are. Obviously, not all offers will be accepted and certainly some players we offer will be currently committed to another school.

Sorry about Abram's commit to Baylor. Not sure if we were ever a consideration but if so another black mark on the previous staff. On another front, another thing Dorrel said in his interview was that "many make defense too hard. We will be very gap conscious." I like this. As one who never understood having Josh Bloom in pass defense and our DE'S lined up inside the tackles, I think our players will thrive on a basic, solid no frills defensive scheme.

Understand but I will go out on a limb and say I am sure we would have been if we tried. Kid wants to play period and turned down Texas tech because they were talking 2 years to see the field. Plus I would have been happy to push acu if the recruiting light was green and offered. I am very high on qua Washington! We offer we get him period. Still waiting the first call! 6 ' 1" 205lbs defensive back! Can run and play receiver! Full ride offer on table from SFA! Received calls from 3 other schools we play looking at San Houston offer to come. This kid acu can have I'll guarantee it!

I honestly thought we would hear about a couple of local kids by now, especially after the open invitation at the press conference. I don't doubt they are recruiting great kids, but we need to also build a local tradition.

I can only assume the coaching staff has been made aware of the local kids.
Surely someone closer to the program would know.

I thought that getting out of the D2 mode and into A D1 FCS it was more important to be something beyond a regional university and show an outreach to a wider area of athletes.

I very much agree with this. A widened outreach should not mean that we neglect our home base however. Let's build a wall around local recruits we want AND broader our recruiting territory at the same time.
