Interesting, seems like he would be a decent power back. He doesn't have big bursts of speed but still had pretty good gains in his video. How did we get a NC name? I like to think it's because ACU is such a well known name and attractive place to come that we attract recruits from all over the country.

An interesting development, apparently former Baylor RB Johnny Jefferson announced on Instagram potential destinations for his return to football and we were listed as one, along with Houston and UTSA. He didn't play in 2016 because of an injury but he is very talented when he's on the field. This would really help out RB situation.

Have to be careful here. He did not play last year because he was dealing with personal issues. Any player leaving Baylor would have to be vetted well by a coaching staff. Jefferson is extremely talented, but homework MUST be done

He went to rehab after pain killer addiction. Stories came out over the last few weeks. I don't see any mention of acu anywhere though.

And IF Jefferson passes vetting and he is even a shell of what he once was then he could be a beast.

Bowie OL Kyle Ohlen to sign with us. Good size at 6'4 310 LBs. Can play G/C. He is a big lumbering lineman. Similar to Mannix but maybe a step slower. Probably needs to lose some weight and gain some quickness but he is another big body that hopefully gets in to some serious shape after a red-shirt year.

QB from Midland Lee Sema'J Davis has comitted. He's 6'1 180 LBs. I don't know if we'll keep him at QB but he did make some very impressive throws.

I have done a little research on Jefferson. Here is what I learned. 1. He started taking prescribed pain meds following a car accident. He developed an addiction. Realizing he was addicted, he tried to wean himself off pain meds. It didn't work. He went to rehab. 2. Because Baylor paid for his rehab, the NCAA won't let him return to the Bears to play ball. This would be considered an improper benefit. 3. In effect, if he transfers here it would be a one year deal to demonstrate his draft potential to the NFL. He would be a fifth year junior in 2017. He sat out 2016 at Baylor where he would have been a fourth year junior, having redshirted as a true freshman. www.baylorbears.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/johnny_jefferson_856851.html

With the furor of the February 1 opening day of the football signing period died down, we are definitely seeing a lull in posts on the board. I started trying to use Twitter (as a neophyte twitter user) to identify other athletes that may be coming ACU's way. Here are several thoughts related to that: - While all of the furor about football is based around Feb 1, the window to sign a football NLI stays open until April 1. There is a chance that some of the kids we read about on Twitter may actually be getting scholarship offers. I wonder if the ACU Football site will give the hard-core ACU football fans some help by posting the ones who are scholarship kids - by posting something on Twitter that shows their signing, like they do on February 1.
- The soccer window, which opened on Feb 1 with football, stays open until August 1, but it certainly looks like Coach Wilson has already loaded up with all the scholarship kids possible
- Basketball reopens its signing window on April 12 and it stays open until May 17. The ACU men only have 1 scholarship available and they have been holding it back looking for the right person. I guess there is always a chance that we could have another scholarship come open - hopefully not, because I think that stability of personnel will continue to help ACU men's basketball. Do the women have any scholarships left to hand out?
- All other sports reopen the signing window on April 12 and it stays open until August 1. I am seeing track and field getting offers out - very glad to see that. For the next few years, depth will be an issue for track and field as they steadily add scholarships to get those teams closer to the NCAA maximum.
I have seen on Twitter at least 2 T&F offers and they look very solid: - Taylor Blackshire (female) is a sprinter for Mesquite Horn (the alma mater of Taylor Gabriel). At their district meet last year, she finished 2nd in the 100 and 3rd in the 200. Why are we looking at a kid who was 2nd in her district? Well, she finished 2nd to her teammate Kaylor Harris, who went on to finish 2nd in the 6A 100 at state and is the U.S.'s top returning sprinter at the high school level. Harris (the daughter of former TAMU quarterback Rod Harris for you long-time Texas sports fan) has already signed with Texas Tech. Last weekend, I had the opportunity to work the Dunamis Sports Group Indoor Classic in Frisco (indoor track set up inside the Star - the Dallas Cowboys practice field) and Taylor made the finals. It was a stunningly competitive race - the 60 dash. Taylor finished 5th and the top 5 all jumped into the top 10 in the nation for that race in 2017. Taylor is legit and could well join her teammate going to state this year.
- J'Koven Celestine - a jumper from Port Arthur Memorial- I am thrilled to see ACU already offering an athlete out of DEEP east Texas. J'Koven was 8th in the 6A triple jump last year. And, ACU needs jumpers in the worst way. At this year's SLC meet, we probably will not see ANY ACU entries in the jumps (LJ and TJ). There are no pure jumpers on the team right now - the ACU athletes who jump at meets are decathletes/heptathletes who jump to stay sharp for their multi. J'Koven is a 23 foot long jumper and 47 foot triple jumper - both marks a little ways from being conference competitive, but excellent marks to build upon for improvement.

I hope that Mavsman will continue to update the initial entry on this thread to reflect additional walkons and even possible late NLI signees for football.
Some walkon types that have been referenced in this thread are:
-Cade Brown - QB/CB - Anson - 6-3, 165 - he had one of those "signing" ceremonies at Anson HS
-Kyle Ohlen - OL - Austin Bowie - 6-3, 311
I imagine there are others - the coaching staff appears intent on getting walkons to campus in record numbers. With the miracle of Twitter, these might be more easily identified prior to reporting day new August.
