comparing this year's class to last year's class in terms of pundit assesment
Last year we signed 2-3 star players: Giddens and Dunn This year we didn't sign any 3-star players.
Last year we signed 6-2 Star Players: Etuk, Cokely, Qualls, Clayburn , Anthony, and Yandell This year we signed 2-2 Star Players: Lutz and Willams
Baccarini was a 2 star player coming out of high school. I didn't count him because I didn't count HS rankings of our Jucos from last year.

And the player who showed up best to me was Josh Fink, a 0 or 1 star recruit. You just can never tell..interesting that both 3 stars were redshirted.

Just a reminder that the signing window for all sports but football and futbol (soccer) re-opens tomorrow -- April 12. I am hearing of a lot of track and field recruits and they can start officially signing again tomorrow. I hope to see some additional signed letters posted on twitter for ALL the eligible sports.

The first day of 2nd signing period was good to ACU track and field. Already signed 2 more good female distance runners to go with the 3 that signed in the early signing period.
-The prize out of the 2 is Briahna Gerlach of Glennallen, ALASKA - I did say Alaska. In 2015, she won the Alaska 1A-3A state meet in the 800, 1600, and 3200 and last year, she won the 1600 and was 2nd in the 3200 and 3rd in the 800. This is a kid who gets a very, very sort outdoor season - maybe a meet or 2 in April and some meets in May. She came to ACU for a visit and was thrilled to be running outdoors in January - when it was 23 BELOW back home. The Hackett twins said she kept up with them with no problem. That is a big plus in my book.
-The big surprise out of the 2 is Hannah Marut out of Fort Bend Christian outside Houston. She does not have the supe times that Briahna has, but she improved dramatically from Soph to Jr season and she also has already PR'd in the 800, 1600, and 3200 this year. She placed 3rd in the TAPPS 4A 1600 and 3200 last year. Her huge improvement over the past 2 years indicates a very high ceiling for her.
Now, I am hoping to see some female sprinters show up on the signing list, plus some male distance runners and sprinters. ACU desperately needs jumpers in both genders. The weight throws are looking strong for ACU for the next few years.

I thought I would try to recap what has happened to date for T&F recruiting. There is still a lot of additions that need to be made and we will no doubt see a lot more additions into the summer. I know there are some kids we are really interested in signing who are holding out to see if they can really perform well at HS regional and even at the state meet. With most track and field kids not getting full scholarships, the ones who are getting better as their senior year progresses may be holding out to the last moment to see if they can get more interest from more schools.
Here are the signings that happened earlier in the year, during the early signing period -- this was an excellent early signing period for ACU:
WOMEN - Saegan Jost (heptathlete from Wall, TX); Soren Underwood (middle distance/distance kid from Joshua, TX); Sophie McCannon (distance kid from Faith Academy of Marble Falls) and Allison Taylor (distance runner from Prosper)
MEN - Conner Miller (distance runner from Hebron HS in the Lewisville ISD)
Then, on the first day of the signing period, ACU signed 2 very good distance runners (Hannah Marut, from Fort Bend Christian School in the Houston area, and Briahna Gerlach, from Glennallen, AK. Their info is posted just above this post. In that post, I asked for more female and male sprinters, plus some male distance runners. As you will see, I got my wish on the female sprinters, for sure.
Additions announced in the past few days:
WOMEN -Lauryn Asiedu, from Cedar Park Vista Ridge - more of a 400/800 kid, compared to Soren Underwood, who is more of an 800/1500 runner. Lauryn went to the 5A state meet each of the past 2 years and got 4th place in the 5A 800 last year. This year, her HS moved up to 6A and they were re-districted into District 25-6A, a very strong 6A district. At her district meet this past week, she only got 6th in the 800 and 4th in the 400 - which means she will only progress to the area meet in the 400. Her times from HS are good - 57.17 in the 400 and 2:14.38 in the 800. While her senior year has been a bit disappointing, she is still a very strong addition who should help in the 400, 800 and on the 4x400 relay.
-Karrington Lewis, from Melissa HS - a really solid sprinter from a 4A school. Last year, she won District 12-4A in the 100 and 200 and in the 100, she missed going to state by a few hundredths of a second, as she got 3rd in the Region II-4A 100. This year, she has already won the Dist 11-4A 100 last weekend, but she false-started in the 200 finals (ouch!). If she can channel that disappointment from the 200 into her 100 race, she would have a good chance of going to state. Best times of 12.05 in the 100 and 24.95 in the 200.
-Tori Hardy, from Lancaster - a good sprinter from what is easily one of the 10 best sprint programs in the state of Texas. At the District 14-5A meet last year, she only placed 4th, but she came back to get 10th in the Region II-5A 100. She ran a leg on Lancaster's 3rd place 4x100 relay at the state meet. She is kid who has run in front of big crowds - at the Texas Relays, the state meet and at Lancaster home meets (where thousands of fans come out to see their beloved Lancaster Tigers track teams. Best times of 11.98 in the 100 and 25.19 in the 200
-Taylor Tolen, from Denton Guyer - another good sprinter for the ACU women. In 2016, she got 2nd in the District 5-6A meet (Catmasters might be able to give us more info on her). She has been injured most of this season and I don't know if she was even able to run in her district meet last week - if she did not there is no way to progress on toward the regional or state meet. I saw her run indoors earlier this year, when got got 6th in the 60 at the Dunamis Prep Classic held at The Star in Frisco. That field was as good a field as I have ever see outside the Texas Relays and Taylor got 6th. Her best times of 12.01 in the 100 and 25.42 in the 200 are good.
-Alyssa Schroeder, from Dripping Springs - a kid who ran FAR better in her HS freshman and sophomore years than she did in her jr/sr seasons. As a sophomore, at the District 25-5A meet, she got 3rd in the 1600 and 5th in the 3200. She dropped off some her junior year, then this year an injury scuttled her year completely. Her best times of 5:21.84 in the 1600 (as a sophomore) and 12:02.38 (as a freshman) are both okay. I have to think she is a small scholarship kid who is looking to get her career back on track running with what looks like will be a stellar group of distance runners in 2017-18 and beyond.
MEN -Seth Crockett, from Abilene HS - on the surface this is not a transformative signing. In 2016, Seth got 5th in the District 3-6A 800 and 6th in the 1600. In 2017, placed 4th in the 800 and 6th in the 1600 in the District 3-6A meet. However, District 3-6A is a much stronger distance running district this year, because 4 of the Keller ISD schools moved into the district and the KHS schools are hot-beds for distance running. The most encouraging thing to me about Seth Crockett is that this year, he has dropped almost 6 seconds off her PR in the 800 - running a 1:58.07 at the district meet last week. It would appear that he is just now beginning to start his improvement cycle in his senior year.
The ACU men still need to sign more people! There are only 2 seniors on the team - Sterlen Paul and Reid Rivers, but there will be more scholarships available as T&F begins to build its scholarship totals up in the next 2-3 years. The men still need sprinters, jumpers and a few more distance runners. I have heard that ACU may be looking at 1-2 international runners in the distances and I would welcome that! ACU is in great shape for throwers, with Kai Schmidt and Morgan Knight both redshirting and Joshua Hunter, Ryan Simmons and McKennon Cecil with good chances of scoring at the conference meet this year.
The ACU women will be much, much better in the sprints and distances next year. How shallow is our depth this year? We have not even been able to field a 4x100 relay all year and have only run a 4x400 one or two times. Adding three young sprinters is huge (plus a strong quartermiler). And, I am impressed with the recruiting job that the ACU coaches have done on the women's side. ACU is simply not going to get the 11.5 sprinters in the state of Texas - TAMU, UT, Baylor and Texas Tech will gobble those kids up. I like that ACU has found some good sprinters in the 11.9-12.0 range who appear to have huge upside. Just like the men, the ACU women throwers look set for huge things in 2018. Kayla Melgar and Lonnie Smith are redshirting, as is freshman Annina Brandenburg, who is putting up HUGE numbers throwing unattached at meets around the region. Taylor Posey and Reagan Mabery are also looking like potential scorers this year in the throws at the conference meet.
I hope that we see more people added in the coming weeks, particularly more men!

I am super-impressed with the job that the ACU coaches are doing in the recruiting wars this year - particularly with the women's team. Just about every day, I see more kids signing with ACU for the women's team. The kids that ACU is signing are HS seniors - this will be a team that will have time to mature under this coaching staff. On the women's side, the coaches have added a boatload of good HS distance runners, 3 sprinters, a middle distance kid, a strong hurdler and a kid who has the potential of being one of the greatest heptathletes in school history. After this season, because of the wholesale redshirting being employed this year, ACU will only lose 2 kids off the women's team - heptathlete Taylor Yantis Woods, who is a regular scorer at the conference meet and Chartia Hurt, who has only scored on relays since being at ACU.
The new additions that popped up on Twitter yesterday are:
-Jaycee Pannell, from Godley - the 4A runnerup at the state meet in the 300H, she is also a strong 100 hurdler (3rd in the Region I-4A race, just missing going to state last year in that event as well). Last week, she easily won her district meet in both events. She has also placed at her district meet in the LJ, TJ and HJ in the past 2 years. I was pleasantly surprised that we got Jaycee's signature before the state meet, I was worried that she might improve at state to the point that a bigger D-I school might make a run at her.
-Chanda Westbrook, from Eustace - in 2015, she was 4th at the state meet in the 3A 1600 and 3200, but in 2016, she missed going to state by a small margin (4th in the Region III-3A 800 and 5th in the 3200). She has already run PR's this year in the 1600 and 3200 and would appear to have a good shot at the state meet again this year. She was also the 3A state champ in XC this past fall. ACU's XC team this next year is going to be deadly!!
I sure hope we are in negotiations with lots of male tracksters as well. I do think we may be getting some transfers who like what they see in our coaching staff and those transfers may not ever be announced prior to the school year.

WR/FS Jordan White-Sanders from Olton is walking on it appears. He's 6'3 and runs a 4.5 40. That 40 of course will not be 100% accurate.
