On another thread Bogey asked what the pundits on other sites thought about our recruiting class. We know more than the experts about our signees. What say ye? How would you rate our class and why? I like it. Considering how late of a start the staff got it's a miracle this class is as good as it is and really speaks to their ability. I love the OL and CB depth we got. And I also love all the local guys we landed. Would've liked more RB depth but we can still fill that need later. I would rate it an B with the potential of being an A if we can land a RB.

Certainly can't complain. As 1982 said, considering we essentially had a little over a month for this staff to recruit, it's a miracle to have the quality of these players. They may not be rated as high, but I truly believe they will be coached up like we haven't seen on the Hill in a long time.

I was certainly disappointed that we did not come away with a running back yesterday, but there was such a need for depth at OL and cornerback, so I am thrilled with the additions there. This group of OL could really be a great unit that is able to almost all start together for 2-3 years, with some of them able to contribute as freshman after a redshirt year. I think the DEs we added will also be great additions to our true freshmen DEs from last year who played quite a bit (TK, Previlon, and Corey Smith). That should be a strong position for us for years to come. I am also really excited about adding Bryce Baccarini. I think it will be great for him to learn the system this year. With having Dallas as the only QB with much experience (although Munden should be a capable backup), it will be nice to have Baccarini grow in the next couple years and possibly be the successor to Dallas. I am really hoping we can land a stud RB either a late qualifier or an FBS transfer... if we do that, I think this will go from a really good class to a great class. Who knows, maybe Abram Smith gets to Baylor and doesn't like it and wants to come back home. And, like the others have said, to see what Dorrel has done in such a short time is very exciting.

I'll try and take 247's perspective into account (even with some updating to do), as well as ours. With that in mind I give the class a current rating of B+ and the effort of the staff an A+. I agree that the grooming these players will get will be way above and I think that will move them into the A class rating. I know the signing classes will become better in time and as more players become drawn to our program. For now, I want to leave that room for growth.

Ill probably be harsher than most in my critique on the recruiting class that we took this year.
Positives: OL- depth CB- quality and depth QB- depth, quality and competition DE- depth TE- depth, quality, and potential to be foundation players K- extremely impressive ATH- exciting, quality and potential
Negatives: OL- developmental and need time CB- not a lot of downside QB- not a lot of downside other than politics DE- very much developmental and raw TE- not a lot of downside ATH- not a lot of downside RB- biggest need of the entire team and we got none
Grade: C+
There is a big chance for this and last years signing classes to be a great foundation for the transition to a new offensive and defensive scheme. However, many of our players that we have signed are developmental players and it will take time for them to hit the field. The potential is high, but there is a large margin for error. Running back is still a huge need and if they can sign a good one my grade will move up to a B-.

Not getting a RB really hurts. I hope they can get a transfer for DB, OL, and RB. Washington seems like a great pickup and should provide matchup problems for opposing defenses.

The description of this class seems to be depth, depth, and more depth. But how many of this group have All-SLC potential in a couple of years. Is there a Sam Denmark or a Dakota Laws in this bunch. Best Recruit: Lutz. Has WR hands and TE size. Love this guy. Best Lineman: Bird. Could play early a la Riley Mayfield. Best Defender: D Williams. His signing improved this class.
Exciting Potential: Hendrix. He will become a bulldozer guard.
PWO most likely to make it: Mark. Better high school competition and he gets a scholarship somewhere.
Best Under-the-radar pickups: Udoye. May be 6'3". Safety possibly his best position. Gibbons. Could be prototypical NWMSU DE.
Everyone else are accurately described as hard working, solid, blue collar. Plenty of foundation pieces but no apparent playmakers.
Compared to other SLC programs: Middle of the pack. But we are pretty well stocked for 2017. Transfers should include at least one RB, one OL ready to play, and a couple of corners.
My Grade: C.

I like strobros assessment. Realistic. No purple kool-aid. I'm of the same mindset. We will see what happens with the development of these players. CB and OL depth was needed and addressed and everything can agree on that. I feel Washington's talent could be better utilized in a different role but maybe I'm wrong, maybe 'C-back' is perfect for him.

We recruited no glamour positions, QB. RB, WR. So I'd expect those that rank to totally overlook this class. The big uglies on the OL and DL take a while to develop so we may not know for a while what we have. Looks good to me on paper. The big questions to me are: can these corners cover and can we run the ball enough for Dallas to get the ball in the hands of some mighty talented receivers. We should be better on defense with the returners we have but also because we've upgraded the defensive coaching staff (unproven statement but my opinion). We'll need some of our new corners to step in immediately and I think Washington will play quickly. Hopefully all others can RS.

Before someone thinks I forgot Baccarini at QB, I didn't. He was looking, came to us, liked what he saw and stayed (and will be a player before he leaves, IMHO).

To add a couple of thoughts:
This class is stronger at the bottom and thinner at the top than in recent years. It is evident to me watching HUDL tape that coaches spent a lot of time focusing on PWO's and partial scholarship "blue collar" recruits. This will help our 85 man roster.
Coach Dorrel mentioned that we kept within our budget, leaving us scholarship money to go after juco and move down transfers to fill out the class at positions of critical need. The 'cream' for this year's class may not be on campus yet.

I still think the coaches this year also tried to find the RIGHT recruits for us at the moment. I know this meant more than just their number of stars: academics, character, desire, potential. After seeing some higher ranked star players come here and not perform, I too want to include other things besides an online ranking. I don't discount that, but I want more. Blue collar players that are smart, strong, teachable and don't ever quit are better than... let's say other things. I still know there will be higher level recruits in the future as well, but again, hopefully the right higher ranked recruits.

At least we recruited bodies for the right positions so, hopefully, they can be coached up. I agree though, on paper the quality isn't there, at least not at the top. For example, last year we recruited a 3 star and a 2 star linemen. None of this year's recruits are rated this high.
