Pitching getting hammered by SFA early which continues the weekend trend.

Looks like our baseball team is falling into a familiar pattern. We play good baseball against non conference foes and then get hammered against SLC competition. Our pitching staff looked to be the strongest in years at the start of the season and now we don't have anyone that can stop a rally. We've been swept by two conference opponents and haven't played the best in our conference yet. Could be another long season.

We are already at our win total from last season, granted that isn't much to celebrate considering it's only 13.

Yes, improvement would be great but consider this--we can put a lineup on the field with nearly every player hitting .300 or better, we have our best hitter (Trevino) on the bench with an injury (I suppose, but nobody really knows)but we still are 2-7 in conference and have yet to play Sam Houston, McNeese, CC, UCA, HBU, and Northwestern St. all of which have better records than us. Our pitching staff has to get better and after seeing 9 conference games where we've given up 9.4 runs per game, I have my doubts about getting much better. I really don't want to be Debbie Downer but the only team we have left to play that we have a better record than is Lamar and they were swept by the 2 best teams in conference (Sam and SELA) and lost 2 games to UIW who swept us so their current record may be misleading. We were 3-27 last year, so it should be a given that we will surpass that but by how much is the question? Will we win 10 conference games? Is that an improvement? Are we content with a 10-20 record in conference? Hitting is not the problem, we lead the league in hitting by a wide margin .319 to .288; we have 8 hitters over .300, so it will be hard to improve on that. Our problem is pitching.

Looking at tonight's lineup in 8th inning of a 5-4 SH lead and wondering why we have Mausser (.105), Smith (.083), and Watts (.235) in our lineup batting 7th, 8th, and 9th with Dunn (.300), Kyle (.323) and Claborn (.438) on the bench. I guess they are injured. That's a lot of firepower along with Trevino on the bench.

It’s looking more and more like this will be Bonneau’s last season. Knowing the way De Leon operates I don’t think there has been enough improvement from this team for Lee to bring him back. I hope I’m wrong and the team can turn it around though.

Interesting outcome from this weekend - UIW swept SFA. And we are 0-6 against those teams.

Losing 19-10...but we have a player that's hit for the cycle so it's an awesome game! Sigh...

We lose to HBU 23-20. Our starting pitcher is left in the ball game for 5 innings while giving up 10 runs and 13 hits. That seems odd to me, of course when relievers give up 13 runs in the last 4 innings the picture becomes more clear. The highlight was that we only walked 3 batters for the night. Congrats to Mike Munoz who hit for the cycle and had 5 hits for the night and Koby Claborn who hit a 9th inning grand slam.

That is a huge win for ACU over TCU. Even if TCU is 18-14 this year, that is still a win over a quality opponent at their home field and Lupton Field is a huge home-field advantage.
So, this puts ACU at 18-17 on the season. That is 4-14 in the conference standings and 14-3 out of conference. ACU is 10-3 against D-I schools outside the SLC (6-1 against SWAC teams and the SWAC is the most poorly funded D-I programs in the nation). ACU is also 1-0 against D-II, 1-0 against D-III, and 2-0 against NCCAA schools. For ACU, there are still 18 games to go -- 12 conference games and 6 out-of-conference games, all against D-I schools (Siena for three games at home and single games against Texas A&M, TCU, and UTSA). ACU is in 12th place in the SLC, with 12 games to play. We still have series against Lamar (11th place currently), UCA (5th), Northwestern State (7th) and we finish the season against TAMU-CC, who is currently the only team below us in the standings. If we can win each of these series 2-1, that would give us a 12-18 conference record, probably not enough to get into the tourney.

Other than bowling 🎳 , baseball is probably the SLC sport that is most nationally competitive. Sam and several of the La schools have great mid major programs. All things considered, we have made good progress this year, I think. But getting to the tourney is still an unfulfilled objective.

Fantastic win!! SLC baseball is incredibly tough but there is tangible progress with this team. I'm thinking after last season's tenuous "will he be back?", Coach Bonneau gets another year.

So we beat Dallas Christian College 1-0 one week and then TCU the next. As solid as the conference may be in baseball, I still can't figure out this program and it's direction.
