The Texas Tribune ran an interesting article on the escalating cost of recruiting student athletes to Texas universities. In many instances recruiting budgets have doubled in recent years. The article focuses on public FBS programs, but there is a “trickle Down” effect at the FCS level. A point I Found interesting is the growth of “cottage industries” that provide recruiting related services such as recruiting packets with the names of recruits along with data about their athletic and academic performance. There is also a discussion of the indirect value a solid athletic program plays in the life of a university. Like it or not, athletic success enhances the perception of a university’s quality in the mind of the general public. www.texastribune.org/2018/05/01/Texas-college-recruiting-costs-doubled-student-fees/
