Got the new golf schedule from coach Shaw for the fall and spring. A good mix of old and new tournaments. The Colin Montgomery that we won last spring will be played at Cypresswood Tradition course instead of Augusta Pines. Much more of a challenge. Adding tournaments in the spring in Tampa Florida hosted by South Florida, the "Big Texan" tourney in Kerrville at Comanche Trace (a course I've wanted to play since it was built) and one hosted by Sam Houston at Walden on Lake Conroe (which I have played and is a gorgeous golf course). Some of our returning players have not played much tourney golf in the summer which I sense dismayed (is that strong enough) the coach. He thinks Freshman Jason Eppinette might challenge for a tourney slot. We really have a pretty strong returning roster (Glanton, Clouse, Dooley, Allison, Siebert, Miller, Brown, Donnell, Connor and Ramage) and with the addition of "The Jim" great things are ahead for this program.
1st tourney of the fall at the end of this week. We are taking Glanton, Dooley, Clouse, Allison, and Siebert (top qualifier). This may be our strongest 5. Last year we finished 10th (293-295-287) and were led by Bryce Dooley at -1 for the tourney (70-75-70). I'm thinking this is the beginning of a really good year for ACU golf. Go Cats.
1st round almost in the books for the Cats. 3 golfers need to finish their 18th hole. Currently we are -1 as a team and tied for 8th place, only 4 shots from 1st. We led the tourney a good part of the 1st nine and were as many as -4 but Glanton had 2 double bogeys and Chase Allison who started at -2 has had several bogeys. But still a good showing on the 1st day pending the finish. So far Alex Clouse is our leader at -2 (70) and Chase Allison finishes at even (72). Seibert just bogey to finish at +2 (74)to move us to even par. Glanton (currently +4, score won't count) and Dooley (even) are yet to finish.
Glanton and Dooley both finished with pars but Siebert's score was changed to a double on 18, so we finish at +1 (289). Many schools still on the course but at present we are in 8th place alone. I'll monitor until all are finished. Last years 1st round was a +5 or 293.

Sounds better than last year. I know that finishing holes tend to be tough but it seems that we still lack a bit of “ killer instinct” for closing out rounds strong. Under par would be nice, for sure, and we had a chance but didn’t close the deal.
Interesting stat from day 1. We led the field in scoring for par 4's. We were the only team to be under par (-1). That is significant because there are 10 par 4's per round (50 total for the team) and only 4 par 3's and 4 par 5's per round. It is significantly harder to be around par on the par 4's than the 3's and 5's. This shows that we really played well for the majority of the holes. Now, we were near the bottom for par 5's (+4) (Siebert's double bogey didn't help but really didn't change our place much) and near the middle for par 3's (+2). I'm convinced our par 5 scoring will get better and if our par 4 scoring doesn't change much, we'll be in the hunt in all our tourneys. Par 4 scoring is the real telling stat in college golf IMO.
Didn't get off to a very good start this morning although we are still holding onto 7th place by ourselves. The good news is that Glanton is -1 thru 10 holes. As a team we are currently +3 with almost everyone finished with their 1st nine. We need to pick it up on the back nine.
Slow start, slow finish--again. Still t-7 but +5 total. Today Alex Clouse shot 68 for a -6 total and T-2 place individually. Glanton had it going for a while and was -2 but finished with 4 bogeys and 1 birdie over his last 7 holes (73). Allison a solid +2 (74) but we had to count a 77 (+5) by Dooley. Siebert shot 78 for the non counter. Last 2 holes we were +4 as a team. Yesterday -1 as a team on par 4's. Today +8 on par 4's. Makes a difference. Maybe a good round tomorrow. Last year 295 2nd round, today 292,so 7 shots better, but last year we shot 287 (-1) on the last round, so we really need to gear up for tomorrow.
What a wild ride in the final round, so far. The Cats are currently in 7th place and even par for the round. But that doesn't tell the whole story. We have made numerous birdies but every Cat golfer has made at least one double bogey or worse. Daniel Siebert has made a double and triple but is still just +2. Closuse is again -2 and so is Glanton. Allison is now +2 after a great start. All told we have made 17 birdies. We continue to have trouble on the par 5's. Who knew? We need to finish strong. Bryce Dooley, who played #1 this week and led the Cats last year at this tourney, continues to struggle and is currently +4 for the day.
Talk about finishing strong (not). Three of our top four made double bogey-bogey on the last two holes today to go from a team score of -2 to +7. A really good week ruined by the last two holes. We finish 9th in a field of 16. On to the next tourney. Don't know if changes will be made to personnel. Glanton did shot a 69 in the last round.
THE line-up for the 2nd fall tourney has been announced. The only change is newcomer Francisco Osio taking the place of Daniel Siebert. Siebert and Cade Miller are still qualifying to be a non counting 6th man to go to the tourney. The tourney is hosted by SMU at Trinity Forest Golf Club where the Byron Nelson was played last year. It will be quite a test for the Cats. We've now had several weeks to practice at our new short game facility "The Jim." Maybe we'll see some progress. I don't know the teams that will be at this tourney but I'd suppose the competition will be pretty stiff. Looking for some consistency. Sunday-Tuesday.
1st round was pretty good until (you guessed it) the last 2-3 holes. Two of our players had double bogey on the par 3-138 yd. 17th and then both followed that with a bogey on their last hole. Still we shoot 288 which is +4. Today is another story, everyone is well above par and we are in last place by a gazillion shots. I just don't get how Garrett Glanton can shoot a 69 (-2) in the 1st round and then be +5 thru 9 holes in the 2nd round. Clouse is also +5, while Allison and Dooley are both +3.
