Larson is definitely not a point guard. I do hope they give her more time, but if they do, it won't be at the point. Mraz is a possibility, but she has little experience. She did not play a lot as a freshman and was hurt most of this year.

Is Paige Emborsky a point guard or not? In all the write-ups from her high school and JC it just says guard. I have a lot of confidence in Katie Horyna (Kansas 6A basketball is pretty good) but have thought all along the PG position would be Emborsky's. Not sure about Cattitudes comment bout her handling D1 defenders. Surely she'll be better equipped to handle the PG position than a freshman or Mraz who is also short (5'6" )and has no experience.

I think Paige is a scorer first. Now, the same could be said about Bre Wright. Just to be clear, just because Paige is listed as a guard, does NOT mean she can play the point. She might be able to, time will tell, but I think it would be best for someone to bring the ball up the court and let her create and hit open shots. When it comes to Freshmen, Julie likes to hand the reigns to them, especially at the point. She did with Whitney and she did with Bre. Bre started 27 games as a freshman; Whitney started 14 her freshman year

I look back at that 2012-2013 team and think, wow, what could have been-
Soph Sadie Dickinson started 26 games and averaged nearly 11 points per game (quit after the season)
Fr Kynzie Newman didn't start a single game as a freshmen, but averaged 8 points a game (quit after the season)
Jr McKenzie Langford, leading scorer on the team, 14 points per game (quit after the season)
All had different reasons, and all stayed at ACU and finished their degrees, but it was so sad to see that kind of talent leave the team.

Looking ahead at the women's roster, it appears that there is one more scholarship left to give for the 2021 class. The three commits are solid and I'll be keeping an eye on them as they play their senior years. All three - Johnson, Babineaux and Earle - were first team all district as juniors and Johnson and Earle got additional recognition as defensive player of the year and player of the year in their respective districts.
I am updating page 1 of this thread for those who may be interested.

I like the pieces that Julie is putting into place. If Adams can continue to improve and Mathews gets some time and is a competitor and Stevenson can contribute then in 2021 we add Babineaux and Johnson we can be as good under the basket as we have been in years (maybe forever). I have no idea if Griswold will be a player for us or not but if she is we'll be strong under the bucket for the next 4-5 years. With Horyna, Emborsky, Morgan and then Bella Earle in 2021, we could be special. Waiting to see if we bring in a transfer in 2021. This bunch ought to be fun to watch. By the by--is Bella Earle that player who could be the best ACU recruit ever or is there someone else?

The key for this year is--do we have a point guard? Is Earle at point guard? She certainly can dribble and pass but is that her natural position?

That will be the key factor for Women's Basketball this year is trying to find a point guard who can be consistent until we get Earle in Abilene. I live 30 minutes from where Earle went to school and I can say she is a natural one, shes basically played that since freshman year. I also think Julie needs to be aggressive on Madi Ott more. Ott is a solid 2 and she can shoot 3's and be a slasher. We could have the Bre and Dominque combo 2.0 if we can snag both ladies.

Don’t be surprised to see McCleod out front some. Morgan can penetrate and dish and Hornya has the skills to play point. But I think Mraz will get first chance to show she can take the point.

Maddie Ott would be a terrific recruit, for sure. Long shot, I think. Keep an eye on Jazzy Owens-Barnett. She’s been on campus twice. One camp. One unofficial. True point.

Jazzy is a ‘22. Not much immediate help.
