Yep. Sarcasm. I'm still hoping we add someone but I'll be content with what we have. Kolton Kohl is going to have to really step up his game (and I think he can) for us to go very far with Pleasant (6'8") and Gayman (6'6") and Howell (6'7") all chipping in major minutes and points under the bucket. Staying out of foul trouble may again be a challenge. Someone tweeted that newcomer Coryon Mason (6'1") would go down as one of the best to ever come out of ACU. I raised my eyebrows at that but Mason, Allen (6'4"), and Morris (6'4") could be keys to a very good season. I look for Lenox to add to his minutes this year, with Cameron, Daniels and Ricks providing some fireworks from the outside. Anyway, I have confidence in the staff to bring this squad along and have a very good year. Saw that Chase Cobb would not be back on the team leaving us 2 players short of a full team. Anyone verify that?
I can't imagine trying to assess this team and make a prediction for the season. So many new pieces and new roles for the old pieces. Way too many questions that just make it impossible (for me) to come up with a confident, and informational prediction for our season. Oh, we aren't going to be terrible or anything - just don't have any way to evaluate the changed team, and where I think we will land in the mix of the Southland Conference.
Sorry, didn't see this post earlier on another thread. If this finalizes our 2019 squad, we are going to be really short behind our starters. Ought to be a fun team to follow if we can rebound and keep folks honest in the post.
Just looking ahead verbal commits says the tallest guy we have an offer out to is 6'7" and he's a forward. We lose Howell after this year and will only have Kohl and Pleasant in the blocks. I sure don't won't us to go back to the days of only having guards like happened at the last of our D2 days and 1st or 2nd year of D1 era. We had the occasional big guy but foul trouble often left us with a very short lineup. I'm sure coaches are looking for some big guys but an injury or two right now could leave us really hurting.
I like the offer to Richardson but we need to start building a taller base. Pleasant is a warrior and glad he has 3 more years but he will need help for us to be competitive. There are all kinds of guards who seem to be available to schools our size but big men are at a premium. Looks like a pretty good schedule too. I haven't researched the teams such as Drexel, UNLV, Pepperdine, Texas St., SMU and Wichita St to see what kind of teams they expect to put on the floor but this seems to be fairly ambitious. We'll certainly be "battle hardened" come conference time. We continue to build and that's good.
