Don’t we have a resident Aledo poster? Any info on the OK St kid.
I am worried about a lot of these kids being serious projects. Lots of small school and private school signees.

Just reading the press on Knox out of High School by his coaches and the recruiting services he sounds like a real find. 2time all state at Aledo and a hard worker. Was 6'1" 280 as a senior, not recruited at OL by big time programs because of size. Coaches were high on his abilities and work ethic. A starter at Aledo as a soph. Now 6'2" 300, I'm thinking he will compete for a starting position immediately.

Sometimes it takes a negative experience to wake a kid up. His HUDL film shows he can make an impact. I'd think that if he is coachable we'll be able to get his best. I think I saw that he has a 4.89 40. That seems big time for a 290 pounder. Maybe that's not accurate but he did run the ball a little. I think he can be a diamond in this class full of potential. No doubt hie is impressive physically. He can be as great as he wants to be. Such quick feet and he seems to have a nasty streak. I hope he wants it as bad as we want it for him.

DL Austin Lozano from Hamlin announced I worry about his motor. Edit: Although, if he can focus on only one position, and only 20-40 snaps a game, maybe he will play at 100% the whole time. I just saw him take some plays off in the biggest game of his life...and I think it cost Hamlin a state championship. Didn't he play both ways at Hamlin? If he did then I'm pretty sure it's not him being lazy and taking plays off it would just be more about him being gassed. You get him in a college workout program and only have him play one side of the ball and he could be really good.

So I have updated my "Around the Southland" look at transfers into the conference. I've done quite a bit of editing to make that easier to read on page 1. There are a number of links sprinkled throughout that I thought you might find interesting. All the commentary is mine (and probably the mistakes).

Other than our transfer signings, and the one high school DE that reports an offer from SFA, did we have any high school signings that had reported other D1 offers?

Satterfield was an Air Force commit originally. I'd have to go back and look if there were others.

Count me as someone who is skeptical about all these “ offers”. I agree with Oscar, however, that SFA is loading up. And I think Carthel can really coach. I also think that SFA takes some risks. Of course SFA is an academically flexible institution so they can find more ways to keep them eligible than ACU.
One thing about recruiting TAPPS and small schools, many, if not most, of their best athletes are playing multiple positions or are out of position. Thus guys like Trase Price - a gifted athlete at 6’5” - is playing QB when he might be a 3* at a larger school where he played TE or DE exclusively. Also, most of these so called offers come from the big Nike camps and small school guys are rarely invited.
So time will tell how good this class is relative to everybody else. But I really like the recruiting approach of our coaches.

It will be the coaching and the work/attitude put in everyday by the palyers; especially away from official practices.

One of the many things that SFA has working for them is they have a stud recruiter for the defensive line in Jamarcus McFarland. I saw a tweet yesterday from a national analyst praising him for the work he does in getting players to campus.

Each year we talk about needing to recruit better but each year we talk about being happy with our signing class.
Coaching and developing players is important of course, but we just took a lot of fliers and went small school heavy this year. I'm not saying they can't play, I'm just saying there is a lot to prove and develop and they won't be ready for a while. We seem to have taken lots of drop downs and transfers for immediate help and are hoping these young kids develop over the next few years. I feel like this high school class has more partial or PWO types than years prior.

I am thinking that Brian Bullock is staying at Northwestern this spring to finish his degree -- he will come in as a grad transfer, with 1 year of eligibility left (RS year in 2016; then played 1-3 games in 2017, 2018, and 2019).
Between the good work of Mavsman on Catchat and ACUAthleticsFans on Twitter, it would appear that the walkon list right now for the fall: QB Keegan Tharp, QB Aaron Monsivaiz; RB/CB - Christian Richardson; LB Zeke Lott; P Will Fargason; PK Brock Thompson. Of course, with walkons, they are only signing a "Wildcat Letter" -- so it is still open season on any of these athletes if a D-II school wants to try and poach them.
Last year, in a footnote on the signing day press release, there were 3 athletes mentioned as 2019 walkons -- Colton Pool from Boerne was one of them. Within a week of being mentioned in the footnote -- Pool had "decommited" from ACU and signed with the Air Force Academy. He does not appear on the AFA roster in 2019. This year, there was no footnote on the ACU signing press release mentioning any walkon names.

We also discussed Cole McDowell, from Nashville Lipscomb Acad, on the board. His Father is the VP of Student Life at ACU. Cole moved to Abilene with his family when his Father got the ACU job, but when Trent Dilfer got the HC job at Lipscomb, he moved back to Nashville for his HS senior year. I see on the Murray State site that Cole signed with the Racers -- listed as a TE at 6-5, 223 pounds. I am still a little surprised that ACU did not make an offer to him of any kind.

One thing that I am really excited about is the role of Enrique Davis. I think he will be able to really help the staff pinpoint excellent talent. I also think Coach Ellington will bring a lot to the table too.
It will be interesting if we continue to recruit in Arizona, being that we had no success this year.
