OL Ty Buchanan committed to USC I figured he would end up at a prominent program. At least he got connected with our staff if he were to transfer.

I was thinking about this the other day-
With us, UCA, SFA and HBU playing in the fall, that potentially could give us, and those schools a huge recruiting boost. Here is why: all of the other schools in our conference will be preparing and playing games. Yes, those other schools could potentially have recruits on campus (which right now cannot happen) for home games. However, our coaches could be out on the road, at schools and in homes; again, assuming recruiting can turn back to normal.
A lot still to be determined, but I think that was very smart of our AD and coach to do things this way, rather than to play in the spring.

Not sure we will see a lot of offers or commits yet. Several reasons for that-
1. Staff seems really focused on our current season 2. Prospective recruits cannot meet with coaches. They can tour a school, but not meet with any coaches at least until Jan. 1. 3. Our staff has to find out how many spots will be available for 2021. As TrackFan said today, Russolillo stated he wants to come back next year. How many other Seniors are thinking the same thing and how many of those players does the staff want back? There are currently only 13 seniors on this roster, so there isn't a lot of room to add a ton of guys anyway.
If the plan is still to keep signing day in February, it will be a sprint for many teams for 4-5 weeks

I would think recruiting across all sports right now is pretty out of wack...

The signing dates for all sports are still similar to past years:
D-1 FOOTBALL - 1) early signing date - Dec 16-18, 2020; 2) mid-year JC transfer - Dec 16, 2020 to Jan 15, 2021; and the "regular" signing period - Feb 3 to April 1, 2021 -- I notice that the regular signing period closes earlier than it use to close (April 1) -- does not let D-1 schools string along athletes who will end up at D2 schools anyway
D-1 BASKETBALL - 1) early signing date - Nov 11-18, 2020; and 2) "regular" signing period - April 14-May 19 -- just like football, the regular signing period closes earlier for D1 to allow D2 schools to fight over the leftovers
ALL OTHER NCAA D1 SPORTS - opens Nov 11 and closes August 1 -- there used to be an early signing period for other NCAA sports, followed by the regular period (like basketball), but that changed a few years ago just to leave the window open from start to finish, which I really like.
Few thoughts about the "letter signing":
-most FBS schools fill their signing classes in during that early signing period. Last year, ACU ended up with more signees in the early signing period than ever before.
-The "National Letter" only applies to NCAA D-1 and D-2, because it is tied to athletic grant-in-aid. NAIA is not part of the National Letter system (they have their own letters); JC's are not part of the national letter system (you will also see athletes teetering on the academic brink sign both D1 and JC letters); and D3 does not participate because they do not give athletic scholarships (yeah, right). I am not certain about the Ivy League -- I don't think signing with an Ivy League school is binding to other NCAA schools, but I am not certain about that.

How does the temporary rule change granting an extra year of eligibility to seniors affect our recruiting strategy? Assuming many of our seniors/grad transfers decide to return where are the obvious areas of need that we need to shore up?
My thought- RB, LB, for sure.
