Due to season starting two weeks late, women lost road game at Univ of New Mexico and home games vs Portland and Wright State. Just glad they are playing games. I didn’t know that part but yes it’s good their playing games but I’m concerned some of the younger players won’t be ready for the conference if COVID hits the team based on non conference strength

To think that Julie would actually have more than a 7 player rotation...

History says Julie will have her team ready for conference no matter what.

To think that Julie would actually have more than a 7 player rotation... Ha ha. Don't count on it. What I'm hearing from practice ... 4 probable starters - Adams, Mabry, Miller and McCloud. So who plays point guard? Some combination of Mraz and Horyna. First off the bench - Griswold and Emborsky. The other 3 freshmen have been counseled that they should not expect to play much this year. Larson and Wilcot. No idea although both bring skills to the table. Despite the loss of Wright, Golightly and Ducat from the starting lineup, I don't believe 20-21 is the rebuilding year. That will occur in 21-22 when there are nine freshmen and sophomores on the roster. However, that group could be the most talented of the Goodenough era. We should finish in the top 4 in the conference and if the team gels, an NCAA or NIT bid is within reach. I predict we win 6 or 7 in non-conference and 10 to 12 in conference. What our seeding for the tourney might be I cannot tell because every team is playing a different home and home schedule and ours is one of the more difficult on paper. I look for SFA, UCA and Sam Houston leading the pack besides us. However, Moody should be ready for SLC dominance in a year or two. (or WAC, whatever)

The WAC offers a brighter future than any of us know about. To a casual observer, the WAC is a dumpster fire willing to take any school that comes along just to stay afloat. 2. The Southland has more internal problems than any of us know anything about. Now, back to women’s basketball..one of the brightest stars in ACU’s athletic crown.

Again, as I said on the men's thread--the Optimist reporters did a fine job on their preview of women's basketball this season. I like Julie's enthusiasm for this team. I hope it comes to fruition. While I really like Anna McLeod's game, she really needs to improve her 3-point efficiency and I think she dribbles too high to be an effective slasher inside (she lost the ball too many times last year thru losing control and having the ball stolen). Maybe this has been corrected in the off season. She is really smooth and has a great looking shot. Will foul trouble for her be a problem again? If she has a good year, we may surprise a few people. Paige Emborsky and Katie Hornya may be the surprises of the year.

I have been hearing that Katie Horyna will be a pivotal player from the very start. Having Griswold and Emborsky of the bench will be huge and won't see much dropoff at all. I think the Optimist writers did a really nice job on their write-ups, but I truly believe that the ACU women will do much better than any of the writers predicted. It would be cool to see another 20 win season!

Griswold skipped my memory. Thanks for the reminder. Many, many reasons to be excited about this team---and next year will be even stronger.

I think that some of the Optimist’s concern was schedule. We play SFA, Sam, Corpus, Lamar and UCA twice each. Along with us, this looks like six of the eight tournament teams.

I walked up to attend the Women's game at the Teague, and was turned away. Only season ticket holders allowed. I had no idea. Is there anywhere to follow the stats???
