Here are my thoughts about how we measure up Funding. Endowment 450 million. No where near the Ivy League but in the top half of the other schools in the top 10. Also, we have some big money donors who have come through with bucks needed for uniforms, travel and other needs as they arise.
Salary. Top ten salary pool when we hired our current coach (he’s starting his 4th season) and I don’t know if it’s kept pace, although still good enough to hire SDSU’s Defensive Coordinator last year.
Athletic Budget Top 25, maybe
Historic Success Bottom half of FCS. One winning season since moving up,
Recruiting Area Top 10. Because Texas. Note: the criterion was recruiting area not recruiting success. Current staff isn’t well connected to the Texas High School Coaching Fraternity, we aren’t in the most fertile area of Texas for recruiting and we have other unique challenges such as required chapel and a challenging academic environment,
Stadium/facilities Quality Top 10. Newish stadium, with suites, club level seating, state of the art broadcast facilities, good bathrooms and excellent video scoreboard. Food sucks though.
Fan Support. I’m not sure how to measure fan support? Average Attendance 7882, more than double undergraduate enrollment but not in the top 30 in overall attendance, Booster club membership has likely declined since isn’t a current area of emphasis. Community support is more geared toward Friday Night Lights (high schools) than Saturday afternoons (ACU). Probably not top 10.
Top 20 maybe with the potential to move up by improving success on the field, picking up on our fumbled effort with the Wildcat club, finding ways to take advantage of our location in a recruiting hotbed and improving stadium food.
