Does NAU have enough need to move away form the Big Sky? They would be a great addition, but beyond maybe having a Western Division WAC be a better geographic fit, what else would they gain? I haven't actually compared the travelling math.

I am looking at the results of the nearly-completed Lone Star Conference indoor track and field championships that are being held on the Texas Tech campus. WTAM is obliterating the field for both the men and the women. From a track standpoint, I certainly hope that WTAM is truly considering a move to D-1 and the WAC. Right now, the WAC is a bottom feeding school in track and field -- there are 32 NCAA conferences that host track and field and the WAC is probably in ranked around the 28th-30th range. The SLC usually falls in the 12th-15th range. The move of ACU, SFA, SHSU and Lamar to the WAC will elevate the conference considerably. Adding in D-2 powerhouse WTAM would also have a very positive impact on getting the WAC up into that top 15-20 range.
If by some wild chance Northern Arizona were to decide to jump to the WAC as well, they could bring the WAC up into the top-15 all by themselves. NAU is ranked as one of the top 4 or 5 distance running schools in the U.S.
