Just seemed like it was the early signing day was over quickly this year. Last year, ACU ended up with 17 signees in the early period -- 9 high schoolers and 8 transfers. This year, we end up with close to the same number of high schoolers (7 this year) - the dropoff comes in transfers (2 this year). This comes with a team that appears to have a LOT of holes to fill for next year.
I need to remind myself that this is only the BEGINNING of the signing season. Last year, when the 2nd window opened for signing in early February, ACU announced 16 more athletes - 5 transfers and 11 high schoolers. One other thing to remember that the scholarships for any of the seniors who choose to return for their "bonus" year will NOT count against the 63 scholarship limit for the team. If an athlete transfers TO ACU for their "bonus" season, their scholarship will count in our 63 limit. Any of the current seniors who choose to stay at ACU will be "bonuses" for this team -- someone like a Nico Russolillo or even long snapper David Stone, who announced he is returning for next season and who is probably on a partial scholarship.

Hayden Anderson is the son of former ACU Big Purple Drum Major Chris Anderson (90s). Chris came back to be the marching band coordinator for a few years and eventually went on to be the Marching Band Director at Texas Tech. Now, Anderson is the Fine Arts Director for the Arlington ISD. YBP!

While we look at numbers, I'm more interested in the quality than the quantity. You can bring in a ton of new players, but if they aren't what we need to fit the program (in many ways) or they fizz out because their playing ability is not what it was, then we have wasted time on the quantity. If we bring in the quality, and the coaching staff is very sure about it, then I'd rather have lower numbers with more potential to actually play where needed.
And yes, it is the beginning of the signing season, and perhaps they have their eyes on and have talked to other players upon which they are waiting decisions. I.E, the kid who wants to play Power 5, but our staff knows he won't go there, but he's still holding out for that invite. OR the transfer who is waiting on his final grades from this semester to see if he is changing. OR the transfer who was waiting to see if he got "recruited over" at his Power 5 school or mid-major to decide whether he is staying or transferring. There a lot of variables, let's be patient and see where the recruiting season leads us.

I dream of seeing Nathan Jones of Brock as a FOURTH generation football letterman at ACU -- certainly hope we see him name on the list of signees next year. I literally did not realize Clay Gayman's terrific ACU lineage until reading on the ACUsports site last night: "His grandmother, Wanda June Buttorff (Pettigrew), attended ACU from 1952-56 ; Grandfather, Gordon Stephen Buttorff, Jr., spoke at ACC Lectureship in 1959 and 1960 ; His great-aunt, Armonte Pettigrew, attended ACU Academy and graduated from ACU in 1957 ; His great-uncle, Grayson Pettigrew, attended ACU Academy, graduating in 1958."
