It concerns me a little that of the high school kids we signed, only one was even first team all district. Maybe the others lost out to guys that went to UT or A&M but it seems like D1 level players would at least be first team in their own district. Hopefully I'm wrong and we found some hidden gems. Edit: Of the ones that signed yesterday. Very much agree with this concern. Lots of projects.

I also just found a video that features Jax Andrews, from Clemens HS signing, but in the same video I see Andrew Edwards (a walkon candidate). Andrew Edwards is the son of ACU alum Damon Edwards and the nephew of former ACU basketball letterman Darren Edwards.

As I said in a prior post, Andrew Edwards intrigues me. Good speed, good vision and a sure handed receiver. HUDL film shows a better than average kick returner. Could he be the next Kobe Clark (a walkon who becomes a really good player)? If our current crop of receivers continue to underperform, Edwards just might see the field next year.

Restricting our recruiting class to these 4 or 5 players and judging the whole class by them is not fair. Take the whole class to judge. Anderson-1st team all-district Walton-1st team all-district, 3rd team all-state in 2018 Cooper-1st team all-district at 2 positions Andrews--1st team all district last 2 years, HM all-state Bradley-3 star DE--not sure how he wasn't all-district Coheley--1st team all-district-MVP Pointer--2 times 2nd team all-region (not sure how Arizona does honors teams) Dillingham--1st team all-district, MVP, 3rd team all-state

Valid point. I guess I was just hoping for some more "wow" players.

We are moving guys from positions they played in high school to new positions in college. That’s a project. Even though recruiting factors in potential and athleticism, high school success is typically preferred as well and although high school success can be measured in other ways, it is typically recognized with postseason accolades. Signing players with no other D1 offers and no postseason accolades would not typically light fires of excitement. Not saying they can’t be gems, but just admitting that concerns are there.

I just went back and counted- 5 of our recruits reported no d 1 offers or other accolades (at least all district or stars by one of the recruiting services). The rest all had at least one d1 offer and/or another accolade. A couple had FBS offers and two of our transfers came from P5’s.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that all of our recruits fell under that umbrella, but rather multiples did.

Yes, I'd like for us to recruit all 1st team all-staters each year. But we don't, so we've got to develop "under the radar" guys. Until we are consistent winners, the top guys will want to go to the glamour schools who offer more than a "a healthy environment in which to grow." They want to play in front of the big crowds, to a rabid fan base in a big town with lots of non-university amenities. Abilene (and ACU) strike out on a lot of that. Winning and "exposure" can change some of that (not all) so we have to figure out how we can win with lessor heralded players. It's been done before in Abilene but not for a while.

I don't see Nacogdoches or Beaumont as huge draws but SFA and Lamar picked up some pretty good athletes that I would have loved for ACU to get. The academics of ACU and being a religious school probably are a strike against us on some of these. I'm just not sure ACU has a huge presence in the high school coaching world and that is where a lot of the recruiting starts.

I remember that PJ Hall got no recruiting interest and went to Sam on a partial and now he’s #96 on the Texans.

Good looking athlete. Looks like he plays safety though not corner. Maybe needs some help with coverage technique but explosive tackler and makes nice breaks on the ball. Nice late signing.
