I don't understand how SHSU has what feels like half their team get all conference honors and a top 2 seed in the playoffs while we're struggling to find a path to .500. Yes it was a weird season and yes their academic standards aren't as high as ours, but that can't account for the totality of such a large discrepancy. Our facilities are leaps and bounds better and somehow we're still struggling to bring in anywhere near that level of talent. Again, I understand our academic standards are higher but if a fellow Texas team and future WAC peer can do what they did, then we should be at least competing for the playoffs, not trying to just post a winning record.

Some contributing factors probably include lower cost of attendance, lower academic standards, absolutely no character / spiritual standards, a program with a long D1 history and a popular place for FBS transfers, perfectly situated between Dallas and Houston. Not to make excuses, but SHSU has many built-in advantages we don't have yet. I say that, then I realize UIW has already had some success with many of the challenges we face.

Location, history of success, respected coach, academic difficulty, party school, several players playing pro ball, just off the top of my head that is a few reasons.

I guess I should rephrase this as I admittedly worded my original post poorly. The question is how do we close that gap?

There is an article on ACUSports.com that tells us that Jermiah Dobbins and Quent Titre gets 1st team all-conference for the schools that played FALL only. There is a separate all-star team for the schools that played only in the spring.
At the end of the article, this statement appears:
"The Wildcats wrap up spring football this week with their final practice Wednesday followed by a Friday night 50-play scrimmage to which all fans are invited to attend. Gates at Wildcat Stadium will open at 4:30 p.m., and admission is free. Action starts at 5:30 p.m. Concessions, however, will not be available."
So, it appears that there will be scrimmage of some type this Friday to end the spring practices. There has still not been an article of any type about spring practices at ACU -- hopefully something may appear before the scrimmage on Friday evening. I hope to make the scrimmage, if the HS regional track meet ends early enough to let me get over there. The dearth of info on ACU football is still very frustrating to me.

This incidentally may have answered the question in my post. We don't market football well AT ALL.

Well yes but they haven't been promoting it too much. Again, my biggest complaint with this department is more just the lack of promotion and hype which, as much as we all may not like it, is a big part of recruiting.

Jamin, I go with Floppy on this one. Have a pinned tweet on Twitter is about a half-step above not really existing. I do appreciate that Landon Autrey does try to get something out on Twitter -- he provides what little info does come out on the team. I will wait and see what I see at the spring "scrimmage" -- that will probably be when I make a decision to renew 2 tickets this year (I had 6 season tickets a few years ago) or just save my money this year.

Trackfan and Floppy, I respectfully go with Jamin on this. I’m renewing my four even though I didn’t go to a game last because, for me, it’s not they do to earn my support but, rather, what I may do to help the program get where we all want it to be. Which reminds, I’ve seen two tweets to date about new UTEP hoops coach to two separate “meet-n-greets” at El Paso businesses, presumably, giving them a chance meet him and he a chance to share his vision. Meanwhile, ACU’s new hoops. Coach was hired less than 24 hours later and I haven’t read of him at ANY such events! Who’s got the hotter program—UTEP, or ACU!?! Moral: if you want to be an ACU fan, you gotta be ready to work. Go Wildcats!!
