I’ve mentioned that my wife and I live in San Antonio and bought season tickets the last two seasons. We didn’t attend any games last Fall but attended several in 2019. We gave the dates we could not attend to friends or family members who are ACU alums. For us, it helps the school and provides us a nice weekend out of town. And for me, a good reason to go Belle’s Chicken. My wife is an Aggie but has loved the experience in the smaller, new stadium and has really come to appreciate ACU. Last Fall was going to be her first trip back to College Station since she graduated in 1987.
Our son graduated from ACU in 2017. I have to admit that when I started going back to ACU games in Shotwell, the experience was saddening. So few people in the stands. Back in my days in the Big Purple, (78-80), the student section was the side behind the visitor’s bench and it was full every game with the band right smack in the middle. The home side was filled with faculty, staff, the visitor’s section, and a bunch of ordinary Abilene folks who wanted to watch a college football game. Seeing the few hundred people on the home side now and only a handful of visitors in the section across the field was rather shocking. It would be nice to figure a way to get that excitement back in the stands and among the students.

I wasn't sure where to put this, but I thought it might fit here. On Twitter today, I saw where ACU has this listed an opening for the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. I don't know if this is move to supplement the current staff (which is definitely needed) or if this is replacing someone on the current SID staff.

Wasn’t sure where to put this...
Gabe Ortega is headed to D2 Colorado Mesa where our old defensive coordinator, Tremaine Jackson, is now the HC. Jackson was gone when Ortega was at ACU so not sure if there was any particular connection.
Of course Ortega was gone last year and vanished without a peep anywhere. Disappointing considering he contributed well two years ago.

In Ortega's tweet, he talks about reuniting with a friend, Eli Lilly, on the Mesa team. That might have been the pull--or coincidence. Good luck to Gabe.
