Interesting stats:
In an interview with coach Golding not too long ago (10 games into our season?), he discussed the fact that we had -0- players at that time averaging in double figures. That has really changed in that after the game last night, we now have 3 players in double figures (Kohl, Mason, Pleasant) with Gayman close by (9 per game).
Gayman has the most games leading our scoring at 6; followed by Pleasant-5, Kohl-4, Mason-3 and Simmons, McLaughlin and Daniels at 1 each.
We are scoring at 76.6 pts per game.
We improved our steals stat to 10.1 per game. (4th in the nation)
We improved our turnovers created to 21.7 per game. (1st in the nation)
Our turnover margin is at 8.1 per game. (1st in the nation)
We are holding opponents to a 59.1 scoring average. (6th in the nation)
Our FT percentage (troubling to some) has risen to 65.5%. In conference (last 11 games) it is 69.2% with 3 games over 80% (none in the 80's before conference play) and 3 more over 70% (none in the 70's before conference play). (We're getting better gradually).
Last thing: Someone keeps saying we are a "tired" ball team. We have only 1 player averaging more than 25 minutes per game (Miller at 28). We are not tired. Travel has effects but our players get plenty of rest and afterall as coach Golding says "21 year olds don't get tired playing basketball". We continually wear down opponents and because of our scoring margin in the 2nd half of most games so far, we get to play our entire bench. We have 7 players who have played in all 21 games and that number would be 10 players if not for injuries to Pleasant (missed 1 game), Mason (missed 3 games) and Allen (missed 7 games, out for the season). Every player on the squad has played in at least 12 games (when has that ever happened?).
At this point in the season (21 games) we are looking good and I think getting stronger. We have 2 big games coming up against Sam (home) and SFA (away) to determine the conference champion and then the conference tourney to determine who goes to the "Big Dance." I like our chances for both. Go Cats.
