Is leaving Texas to take the head coaching job at Marquette. On the surface, this seems like a head scratcher. However, he was born and raised in Milwaukee. I also think the pressure he was under to win at Texas was a lot

There could be some interesting dominoes in play

Wow. I’m going to enjoy knowing that ACU handed him his final loss at Texas.

There could be some interesting dominoes in play As long as Coach Beard stays put in Lubbock, then I’m good.

I think we have to consider what happens in Austin, what happens in Norman, what happens Lubbock, and what happens in Denton.

Once Lon Kruger retired I had seen that Grant over at North Texas was on the shortlist of favorites to replace him. I don’t know that Joe would leave ACU for North Texas. But the interesting part for me would be Texas Tech. If UT does pluck Beard, I could see a potential fit with Coach Golding and Texas Tech. After all, Coach Golding truly is a version of Coach Beard and coaching style and the way he builds a program. I don’t see a situation where Texas would make a run at Coach Golding (despite some of the fans encouraging it on their boards) mostly because it would be a BIG gamble for the University of Texas. They did that kind of gamble in Shaka and as a whole it just didn’t really work out.

I agree I don’t think Texas hires another ‘up and comer’ as their boosters are too demanding at this point. Shaka was a hot name for multiple years too as opposed to joe being really being more known just over the past two.
I think joe would leave for UNT if the money is 3x what we pay. Jared Mosley brought him to ACU and I’m sure they are still close.

Maybe it’s just me, but, I’m pretty sure ACU has officially become a basketball school. Here’s hoping: 1. Joe is willing to accept less than market to stay at ACU; 2. That the $48M investment in Moody turns out to be our “ace in the hole; 3. That ACU is willing to pay enough to facilitate Joe acting on #1 above; and, 4. Joe and Dr. Schubert mutually commit to the idea of ACU being the next Gonzaga
Go Wildcats!! Trust. The. Process.

I think the writing is on the wall as far as the importance of basketball going forward for our university. With that being said, as of two years ago, McCasland made $500,000 at UNT. So I hope ACU is ready to pony up if they want to be a real mid major threat.

Now us being the next Gonzaga I can get behind. Oh what I’d give for us to become the next Gonzaga.

He seemed very committed to building a program at ACU and even commented that he didn’t really desire a huge salary raise but instead preferred to get his assistants raises and boost the quality of life for student athletes.

He obviously made the decision to stay long term despite probable offers for much more -

I just think he needs more time at a bigger program. I assume some of his responsibilities have changed, but I bet when he started at ACU, Golding's responsibilities did not include donor and alumni relations to a large extent.

Do y’all think UT pays the next coach more than Sarkisian at 5.2 M?
