We are hitting opportunistically right now, but we have to step up our defense to be able to get ahead.

Finally, we get some defense going. Can we turn this?

Baseball, baseball... there is a reason it was considered our national sport for decades. It is a game of momentum. Our last regular season game we did something very differently and superstitious me, being an old baseball player, as was my dad and brother before me, immediately feared a change in momentum was coming. There may be nothing to it but if you played, you could definitely feel shifts in momentum. It is a fickle game and clearly there is a reason that for ages players have peculiar ideas about streaks, and what breaks them. A game of inches seems to turn on you suddenly and it is amazing how you can lose your comfort zone.
This was a memorable and fine team and there were times when I have no doubt we would have won this tournament. Now it is clearly an uphill challenge and who knows if we can somehow come back. Nevertheless, this was a fine year and we have quality players. Win or lose, I sure got a bucket full of thrills this year. I just wish we had had a blow out win to wrap up the season -- who knows if that was a factor or not??? Now the only thing that will continue the season is a rally and a lift in spirit.

Random thought ... Why do you send a guy from 2nd on a short single with one out and Colton Eager on deck?? At least a 2 run decision.

You are right. That was not a normal case to send the runner home. But there is no give up in this team... Wow. 15 to 13 now. Oh if we had pitching to match our offense.

Last two games were hard to swallow. Can't give up 22 runs in 2 1/2 innings. What a group of fighters though. Carlton and Riley on the mound today and a lineup full of hitters. They got 4 bloop hits in the 2nd and we hit line drive outs. Next year I'd like to see Huffling and Glaze moved to starters. We need a 3rd baseman although Hill battled today, his error cost us 2 runs, he got picked off 2nd and thrown out at home (don't know if that was his fault or a coaches decision--wrong headed decision). Not trying to find fault--disappointed right now. Really a great year and a fun team to watch. Nearly everyone can come back, who will?

Who comes back has been the biggest question this program faces for the past 7-8 years.

Not the end anyone had in mind, but I sure am proud of this team. Finishing first when picked to finish 10th is quite a turnaround. Good year fellas!

And McNeese wins a pitchers duel 2-1. The Cowboys scored 2 in the 1st and were shut out the rest of the way.

The McNeece starting pitcher (Dion) was really something special. He looked a bit like Clayton Hershaw. Fast, sliding delivery, no hint of the pitch due to great motion and no way to pick up the ball in his hand before getting into the release zone. He was the most impressive player I saw at the tournament, at least for the one final game. The only run was due to an error after a strikeout. That young man was stellar. We did not have that type of dominant pitcher. We give up huge run counts over two games and he had one unearned run. In my book he was the most valuable player of the tournament.
