I agree that facilities are nice, I also agree that we are losing because of reasons outside of our facilities.

Maybe Coach Goodenough needs to help with football recruiting. She has sure been signing some studs lately.

Thanks Evan, always appreciate you sharing with us. Like the shorter version, I have positives and negatives that I take away from it. Over-all, I am still waiting to see what we produce on the field. I'm glad he talked so positively about what basketball and baseball did this year. I wished he would have mentioned us beating A&M in baseball, as well as UT in basketball. I do feel we are at a place in athletics over-all where the expectations are higher all the way around. I hope we as fans and alum do our part alongside the school and student athletes. I disagree with the reset angle. I think we can build off a bad year and I hope it motivates us all the more to break expectations this year. Will it happen? I don't know, that's up to the players and coaches.

Not that I’m able to do much to assist with funding, however, I remained convinced that ACU will never be as competitive in FB as it wants to be without catching up to our competitors from a facilities standpoint. When we picture recruits, they’re standing on Anthony Field with Wessel Scoreboard in the background, which makes sense, given thats the best thing we have. However, many competing photos are taken in indoor practice facilities. My point being while everyone has a stadium, not everyone has an indoor practice facility—just the good programs. I’m thrilled by ACU’s investment in basketball and volleyball as represented by Moody’s massive (both in $’s and scope) remodel. However, I, personally, don’t believe you may underestimate the importance of facilities in recruiting. Consequently, I reiterate my belief that ACU will be less than it’s best until Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium is joined by a similarly world-class indoor practice facility. Go Wildcats!! ACU already has some of the best facilities in the FCS

There is a world of the big dollar schools that ACU simply will never be able to even think about. I was watching the Olympic Trials for T&F on TV and was amazed to see the new Hayward Field T&F complex -- I have not been able to actually see it in person yet. The price tag for that redo was a cool $270 -- for a stadium that is only used for T&F (no soccer or football on that infield). I started doing some math to compare what has happened at ACU in the past decade: -ACU has added a new football stadium (with a new barebones T&F facility coming out of the deal); -we are currently renovating Moody; -we have renovated the Gibson Center into the SRWC; -we added a new science research center, and completely renovated the Onstead Center and the Bennett Gyms/Engineering Labs; -built a new golf house and short course golf center; -added to and renovated the Teague Center (with a new lobby); -added a tennis fieldhouse; -we are finishing a completely new dorm; -the former Cullen Auditorium is undergoing a complete face-lift and renovation that will add lobbies for the first time; -have renovated about 25% of the COBS building. With all of the incredible changes that have come to the campus, the total of all of that building and renovating still falls short of $240 million. If ACU is able to move forward with the proposed Science Engineering Research Center (to house the NEXTLab -- with many thanks to rc from our board) and the proposed new Dorm #2, ACU will finally move ahead of what Oregon spent on their renovation to 1 athletic facility! That is simply another world. Of course, it does help that Oregon has the financial backing of former Duck T&F letterman Phil Knight, who has an open checkbook as the owner of one of the most profitable companies in the world. That certainly puts some perspective in things, TF!

I merely wanted to emphasize (1) the impact facilities have on recruiting, (2) remind that Wildcat Stadium’s original drawings include a “south end zone facility”, (3) last I heard, funding for such a facility was still on the SLT’s “to do list” and (4) Harding, not to mention Baylor, TCU, and a&m, already have them. Right now, about all I may bring to the table is a prayer of thanks, for what’s been done, and hope for it to happen if that’s His will. I’ve said enough. Go Wildcats!!

Did anyone else notice (and perhaps someone said it on this thread, and I missed it), they have changed the field logos to the WAC? Look behind AD on the field and you can see they cut the Southland logo out and replaced it with the WAC logo. A while back this was a topic of discussion on another thread.

The south end zone facility was originally a $10M and now probably more. Harding doesn't and will not have anything like that, but they do have a nice indoor practice facility. Baylor, TCU and a&m are a stretch to use as comparisons.

You can see it better in this video from ACU.

I hope I haven't hijacked this to thread to talk about facilities. But, this most recent gift to Oregon from Phil Knight illustrates an important point about university giving -- many major philanthropists who give to universities may start with athletics, but they will end up giving to a wide array of things across the campus. Knight is giving a half-a-billion (!) dollars to research at Oregon. T. Boone Pickens gave over a billion dollars (!) to Okie State, but while his athletic giving was the most widely discussed on the national scene, athletic giving represented less than 30% of his total donations to the school. He totally transformed the engineering programs at OSU.
In the past 10 years, ACU has been blessed with some fantastic gifts -- many gifts to athletics, but an equal or greater amount to academic and community items. April and Mark Anthony have certainly made substantial gifts to athletics (football stadium and Byron Nelson Golf House), but they have also made a mark on COBA (particularly on the endowment side), Onstead Science Center, Student Rec and Wellness Center, and the new dorm. While Moody Coliseum is the home of basketball, it is literally the most multi-use and most heavily used building on the campus (which the ACU community is discovering as it is out of commission for a year or two). The Anthony impact goes well beyond athletic facilities and in the case of endowment giving, it will not always be highly noticeable, except to the academic side of the campus.

And don't forget Doug Robison who is underwriting $30.5 million of research via the NEXT Lab. This puts ACU at the top of research in the USA in this particular area.
