There have been a lot of accolades following this past Wildcat Basketball Season but my favorite piece was written before the Texas game and was deeply analytical. It has been mentioned here but maybe you will enjoy looking back once again and seeing a very good analysis of our team just before the upset of the Longhorns. Is it possible for the bedrock principles of Tanners defense to be used in football? Seems to me that forcing the ball to an area you are ready to defend, covering for the player who tries and misses, playing your man tight with backdoor (deep) help, etc. could be basic defensive principles for a good football defense. This was a great analysis of why our basketball program is rising. Would love to see our football team get a similar write-up at the end of this year.

Absolutely Bogey. Defense that dictates what offenses do is a thing of beauty. I have always heard about playing to your strength, but if you learn how to dominate with defense, life is a lot easier. My complaint this past year in football was our offense broke huddle and was looking at plays on arm bands or looking at the sidelines. Meanwhile the opposing team was setting up defense and shifting and we often played right into our opponent's strength and shifts. Conversely, our defense was often unable to force plays into our strengths. The big disappoint of the year for me was the Angelo State game when they ran several plays into undefended shifts and alignments. I am no football guru but watching was painful. I like quarterbacks that break huddle with their head up and who are surveying the defense, ready to change the call to something more likely to succeed. But I must confess, I know nothing about coaching football and am just a fan. I am very hopeful for a fine season ahead.
