Buckeye nailed it. UT has been in a state of smoldering dissatisfaction. My friends at UT don't know anything acceptable other than being on top of things, so when ACU beat Texas in basketball I got a thank you note for helping to speed up the coaching change. Then the poor recruiting and lack of success under Herman was unacceptable. The pressure now on Sarkisian is huge. I am not sure what would define improvement to the Horn's fan base but I would bet the football program opens up considerably in the coming season.

Do your friends really imagine being on top of the SEC, even with improved recruiting? Basketball, maybe. Football dominance will be tough.

Alumni donations and support are somewhat tied to Longhorn athletic success, and realistic or not, second place is not in their genes. It will be very interesting going forward. It is not like the old days, of course, when the best athletes would choose Texas because their futures were going to be "taken care of." That whole world has changed. A&M still has strong elements of it but with the rules for compensating athletes changing, I have no idea what the future will hold. Decades ago, the stars often worked at Rooster Andrew's store in Austin and I never quite understood how that was acceptable. Darrel Royal would recruit players who sat on the bench just so they would not be available for other teams. Those days are over.

2nd place may not be in their genes but it’s pretty much been their story for a while now. On the bright side, the Horns just got a commitment from a 2023 WBB prospect who is 6’9.
I’m not in love with the SEC move. However, the Sooners and Horns needed to get proactive or be left holding the bag.

I would have preferred the BIG, but I don't know the details of the various "deals" of the conferences. Way back when I was in school at UT, the relationships in my field were with schools in the BIG and the Ivy, and a couple of PAC schools. The SEC in those days were not very research oriented by comparison.

I’ll be disappointed any year in which the new SEC doesn’t qualify at least 4 teams for the new 12 team playoff. I am happy that the TexasTexas A&M rivalry will be revived, hopefully paid on Thanksgiving.

Its official. The SEC announced OU and Texas are going to be SEC members and compete starting in 2025.
