I am so encouraged to see the ACU football roster in shape before the first game of the season --I know that it took a great deal of effort on the part of the new SID. Jersey numbers are in place (even if the coaches did not follow the numbers rigorously in the scrimmage) and appropriate heights and weights are in place on all players for the first time in about 3 seasons. The most frequently used example of a weight that was obviously incorrect -- Jacob Thielen -- is now listed at 292 pounds. His HS weight of 249 pounds was used for the past 3 years that he has been on the roster. It makes a lot more sense to give former walkon Thielen a scholarship if he weighs 292! As Bogey has posted on another thread, the defensive linemen all appear to bigger and more competitive at their correct weights. For example, having Kabron Johnson listed at DE at his height/weight of 6-4/249 makes a lot better sense than having him at DT.
Some thoughts as I look at the roster:
-There are 93 players who have a number on the roster. The most obvious exclusion from having numbers were o-linemen Jaron Marshall and Tanner Parker -- Parker has some starting experience. Transfer o-lineman CJ Zotz also does not have a number, but he is probably a walkon after 2 years of never seeing the field at Tech. Oher players may well be given a roster number for specific games this fall, but this roster is the first indication of who will be playing in the early season.
-All special team players on the roster have a jersey number - 3 placekickers, 2 punters and 3 deep snappers.
-Most of the scholarship freshmen have numbers -- QB Hayden Anderson, RB Quae Walton, TE Colt Cooper, OL Jackson Andrews, DE Tyrin Bradley, DT Landon Eades, DT Isaiah Pedack, LB Kyle Pointer, LB Cirby Coheley, LB Ethan Taite, and S Luke Dillingham. The only 2 scholarship freshmen w/o a jersey number are WR Solomon Cole and OL Cohen Carpenter. I think the only walkon freshman who got a jersey number was FB Charlie Moore.
-Is Koy Richardson a safety or a corner (or a hybrid)? His position on the roster has changed back and forth over the 4 years he has been at ACU. He is listed among the safeties in the position article, but as a CB on this roster. Either way, he continues to be one of the most active leadership voices on the team.
On a related note, I spoke with a couple of ACU o-linemen who will be starters (or at least in the basic rotation) on campus this past week. They both really like the new position coach, Coach Liddle. A lot of this year's success depends on the offensive line. Let's hope that the combination of lots of newcomers and a well-liked coach turns this year's edition of the offensive line into a strength for the team.

Ok I need clarification--When the roster says RS-Junior as is the case in Garrett or RS-Soph as in the case of Trey Adams, the roster is wrong and these players don't have 2 and 3 years left to play, respectively?

My understanding is the player’s eligibility for the upcoming 2021 season, will remain the same as the player’s eligibility in the fall of 2020.

Someone at ACU has done a lot of cleanup on the participation report -- they did not post the stats for the last game for 2 days and must have been trying to update the participation report before the stats were posted at all.
With 3 games in the books, we can begin to see who is still a redshirt prospect. There are already three true freshmen who have played 5 games -- so there won't be aby redshirt for them.
-Freshmen who have played in every game: Quae Walton - RB; Tyrin Bradley - DE; and Cirby Coheley - LB. All three of these freshmen are in a regular rotation and are getting quite a bit of playing time.
-Freshmen who have played in 4 games: Landon Eades - DT and Ethan Taite - LB. Both of these players are at the maximum games to still redshirt. But, it appears that are playing enough that they will move past the 4 game limit this next week.
-Freshmen who have played in 3 games or less: Charlie Moore - FB (3 games) -- is now the primary backup at fullback, so I fully expect to see him play 2 games or more over the next few weeks; Colt Cooper - TE (2 games); Jackson Young WR (2 games); Isaiah Pedack - DT (2 games); Hayden Anderson QB (1 game); Andrew Edwards - WR (1 game); Jackson Andrews - OL (1 game); Luke Dillingham - S (1 game). I thought when the season began that Colt Cooper would play a lot, but there is enough depth at TE to allow the Wildcats to RS him, but he can still play in 2 games in the next 6 and still get a redshirt year.

Interesting new thing when it comes to roster management:

Interesting new thing when it comes to roster management: This obviously applies to FBS teams which have 25 yearly scholarship limits with an 85 team maximum under scholarship. With so many players entering the transfer portal, some teams such as LSU are way below the 85 player limit due to transfers, injuries and players leaving school early for the NFL. I do believe that some teams will encourage players to enter the transfer portal to guarantee that they can sign 32 players to scholarship this year. This clearly goes against what the NCAA desires. With the additional Covid year of eligibility for all players in 2020, there are more players in the transfer portal. Without this adjustment, the amount of high school seniors signed by NCAA teams would be much fewer than normal as more transfer portal players are signed. Last year for example if you picked up five players in the transfer portal, you could only sign 20 high school players. This year if you lose players to the transfer portal they can be replaced with additional scholarships up to seven. The 85 player limit on scholarship still has to be met however. I would not be surprised if a proposal similar to this lasts beyond this one year.

SELA is a top ten program, does he think he will get more playing time there? If he does, that’s good for him. If he is good enough to play there, I’m curious as to why he wasn’t playing here.
