Here is what I saw-
It turns out Kobie Clark was out with a hamstring. Heard nothing major
QB- Mansell and Earle took turns with the first team offense. Both looked decent. More designed QB runs for Mansell, I think 3-4. Earle had the play of the day with a 35-40 yard pass to WR McCasland. Throw was great, catch was better! Both have great understanding of what the offense should look like and how it should perform. In my opinion, I thought Earle played a bit better. Anderson is good to as QB3. He seems to want to make the big play, rather sometimes take the check down, or the play that is right in front of him. Lambo one time could be heard saying, Hayden the back is right there, get it to him.
RB- Dobbins is Dobbins. Very good and so talented. White, at least I think it was him, had the long run of the day. 35 yards untouched to the end zone. He did have 1 play where he lost his shoe, and instead of running hard, he ran out of bounds. Lambo yelled, get the 1st down. Anthony Smith, who I think wore #20, looks solid too. All 3 RBs rotated. Walton got the most work. He was running with the 3's and got 4-6 yards every carry. McKnight, who I think is #30 right now, got in a few times
WR- Well there were two number 7's. Yep, that's not confusing at all. I think the bigger 7 is Spadone. He is as advertised. Good route runner, physical and catches almost everything. Without Clark, he was the main target. Neece had 3-4 catches. He and Mansell work well together. Brooks-Wess was the other #7 and he had a couple of catches as well. Taelyn Williams, Darius Lewis, Davion Johnson and McCasland were in quite a bit.
TE- Lutz had a great catch in the end zone for a touchdown from Earle. Caldwell is TE 2, and he is much bigger than last year. Grant Miles, Colt Cooper, and Stripling also got some time
OL- First unit looked really good. Very little pressure got to the QBs. I know Moore (LT), Knox (RT) and Collin James (C) started. Honestly not sure who was a RG or RT. Unit 2 was decent, but they have 2 guys, one being Kaleb Chester, that are small in stature. Unit 3 struggled with the most pressure. Anderson was having to escape pressure a lot.
Defense- I won't same many names here, as without a roster, or accurate numbers, it was tough to know who I was looking at. Defense was bend, but don't break. A few big plays, but not many breakdowns in coverage. The run by White was him starting up the middle, cutting to the outside and he was gone. Koy Richardson is the leader of this team; not just defense, but the team. He was always communicating and when in, always around the ball.
Overall- Offense was kind of vanilla, which I would say is partially due to camp being early. I do hope they open it up. There were NO end arounds, but there were several sprint up to the line and say hut really quickly. I never liked that play. Defense is bigger than at any time I can remember. DL looks big and long, LBs look big, not small corners. Tough to see how fast we are on either side. When I was there, no major injuries occurred. On the kicking side, Zepeda has a huge leg. Kickoffs were awesome and deep. Extra points were perfect. Even on the field goal practice before the actual scrimmage started, his kicks were excellent, just not always through the uprights. He needs to stay healthy though, Thompson and Hernandez look shaky to me.
