Interviews with the OC and DC following Scrimmage 2.
Position Reports
Updated Roster with Current Weights.
I’m liking it!
Now….how about a two deep depth chart following scrimmage 3….

I'm ready to give a shout out to Coach Dorrel, the football staff, and the SID. Somehow they found a way to work together to try and build some enthusiasm for the 2021 Cats. The great thing about having the coordinators interviewed is that they know who their standouts are and are willing to talk about them. A head coach, on the other hand, doesn't see the players that closely while focusing on the big picture. Good job everyone!
I've even come to grips with closed practices. I understand the need to limit distractions when you are trying to manage 110 players (or whatever). The fact that Saturday scrimmages are open is good enough for me.
Another pat on the back to Coach D: speaking on the AQ7 podcast a couple weeks ago, he was so enthusiastic about ACU and went on and on about what a great place ACU is. I hope he projects that when he's interviewed around here. Zach Carlisle was also on the podcast and he did a super job.

Outstanding work by the SID's office -- certainly with cooperation from the coaching staff, in particular the strength and conditioning coach! New SID Jordan Herrod is working very, very hard to get things on ACUsports.com. Jordan deserves a lot of credit for getting things up to par very quickly. Like Oscar, I am dreaming of a 2-deep depth chart sooner rather later.
And, at the same time, Jordan Herrod got the XC roster up as early as I have ever seen. And, Zach Carlyle and Cassie Kelly are doing will with some of the the other sports.

WildeCat, Is that a normal thing in college football? I don't recall seeing a 2 deep posted by any program EXCEPT in game programs. Is that what you are referring to?

Oscar, No worries, I saw what you had posted and also noticed that there were NO FCS schools listed on that website, no sam, no central, not even the bigger fcs programs. I would expect any depth chart that might come to be in the gameday program.

Well OK. Specific mention of several players who are doing good things--Mansell, Earle, White, Clark, Neece, Anderson, Stapp. OL looking better. Better depth on DL. I'm wondering if we'll see QB's split time. How will Ant Smith and Walton be used. "Put your best athletes on the field" as opposed to RS. Good stuff. Hopeful our passing game improves. No questions about Clark (who will probably be doubled in most games) but we need several receivers to contribute in a big way. TE? Will we use them even if they step up? No mention of LB's and safeties, maybe that's who need to improve in the "takeaway" department. All in all a good, upbeat interview.

The interview that Mavsman posted is excellent -- lots of info. Coach Dorrel does an excellent job in his interviews -- glad to see more of them popping up. More good work by the new SID!

Dorrel is very likeable in interviews. I hope for his sake we win some games and get him off the hot seat.

I dont really follow college football but I think Dorrel was referring to takeaways as in stripping the ball or causing fumbles, the probable domain of LBs, CBs and safeties, as in second man in...my guess is that no secondary can lockdown receivers for a good passer for long or repeatedly without an effective pass rush to cause offensive team mistakes...as in incompletes or ints, the latter seemingly a woeful stat for ACU last abbreviated season. SMU looks to have a huuge and experienced OL, so the strength, stamina and rush from the ACU DL may be pivotal. Looks to me like SMU has a QB transfer from U of Oklahoma as well as another returnee QB. I gather that the SMU coach likes the air game and + 600 yds total O... which may be a long nite or a helluva game..imo just saying
