A bit on the soft side in my opinion. I would be strongly addressing the challenges we face and laying down hard expectations for going forward. I had a college coach at ACU decades ago and he (Dee Nutt) was quite clear when we did not perform. Together we would set our goals for improvement, not just admit failure. I know times have changed, I know we go much softer on everyone now-a-days, but I sure would prefer to hear what would define success after a dismal game in Dallas. A little fire in the belly might be a better message. How about a 60 point win against LC. How about we hold them to under 150 yards total offence? How about we exceed expectations for a change? Sorry if I seem out of character, but those third and shorts almost drove me crazy. We have a nice guy as HC and he sure seems likeable, but it is time to light a fire under this team -- just my opinion which buys you nothing. I just don't enjoy listening to ex-players and coaches belittle our efforts. I get what you're saying, but that'd be foolish for him to actually say on-the-record. Who's to say he isn't setting quantifiable goals like that to the assistants, or the players themselves? In my experience, when Dorrel is upset he talks less and in a softer tone than more and in a harsher tone (to the media at least).

And you are probably spot on. None of us were in the dressing room after the game, so who knows what he said to the team (or to his coaches) and who knows what will be stressed this week before the next game. I just know of all the coaches I have ever had, known or heard, Dorrel seems the most calm and unperturbed by poor play. I desperately want him to be successful because he sure seems like a quality person. I guess I got my hopes up for this year a bit early. The next few games will certainly be revealing. Still, he sure seemed strangely calm and unconcerned about way the game was played by the Cats. He essentially said, we did not make the key plays, on offense or defense, and that was pretty obvious.
And of course he could not call out the goals of the game against LC, at least publicly, but I hope he fires up the team to be dominating -- they certainly should be.

I just watched the SMU game again and felt better about our team. If we had converted some of the early 3rd and short plays and not given up some big plays, the game would not have been the blow out that it seemed to be. There were lots of times we looked pretty good against a team that is obviously more athletic than we are. It will be interesting to see how SMU looks against UNT this Saturday.

Reminds me of Former quarterback Don Meredith, appearing on “Monday Night Football” in 1970, said If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas. Meredith was rephrasing a much older rhyme that also pricked the balloons of hopeless wishes… only time will tell

I had attempted to follow the game through online stats and comments on here last Saturday. Seeing it with my own eyes I don't feel near as discouraged as many of you seemed to be Saturday. I may be wrong and we get blown out by every WAC team but I think we have the chance to be competitive. Pass coverage is one glaring area of needed improvement. Seeing how SMU does the rest of the year will also tell me a lot.

Does the SMU vs North Texas score this past week…make anyone feel better about our game against SMU?

Yes. I believe SMU’s game @ Cincy later this year will result in the Ponies being ranked.

It does, as I didn't doubt their talent. My assessment was based on our performances and decisions though.

SMU wins with a Hail Mary at La Tech yesterday to stay undefeated. I think they are a decent team and their passing game has put up big numbers against their first two fbs match ups as well. Big game against TCU this week…go ponies?

Big game against TCU this week…go ponies? It’s “go ponies” for me. I was raised to believe the only good thing to come outta Foat Wurth was Hwy 80 East. However, that was before I discovered Joe T.’s and The Railhead! P.S. Also, we didn’t play T.C.U.

TCU opens as a 10 point favorite. It would be nice for SMU to upset them.

It's early, but SMU offense making TCU D look silly.

TCU's defense is nothing to behold. I mean, literally, no one is ever around the ball.

TCU's defense is nothing to behold. I mean, literally, no one is ever around the ball. Historically they are great on Defense, so the perception while watching this game is so intriguing.
