Some things I'd like to see in this game: More of Anthony Smith and Ja'Quae Walton at RB. More of John Brannon and Cirby Coheley at LB. More of Ryan Stapp at CB and punt returner. A change at both safety spots. More tosses to TE. More Dax Neece at WR and better pass routes with multiple players in the pattern. I'm supposing LC will not be able to mount a pass rush with as much intensity as SMU so let's work lots of receivers in. We have to find a pass rush ourselves. Better tackling!!!

LC lost to Southwest Assemblies of God Saturday. We should be able to destroy this team with our 3rd string. If we struggle at all that will be a sign of major problems.

A blowout win would be nice and expected but it feels like an eternity since we last mopped up a NAIA school, that being Arizona Christian. Dorrel and his team aren't overlooking anyone on LC ("... they have some dudes") and neither should we. I think we win 40-20-something.

Frankly, if we win by less than 60 I'll be very disappointed but the score is not really what I'm looking at. I'm more interested in what players play (did we learn anything from game one as per who should be our position players). I'm looking at execution--cutting down on missed blocks, missed tackles, stupid penalties, etc. I'm looking for better situational offensive play calls. I'm looking for a pass rush that doesn't use 2 LB's who totally vacate the middle of the field and leave us vulnerable in the middle, et. al.

We must understand that much like the SMU game, this game against La. College will tell us some things, but honestly the real test will be later in the season. Yes, we will be favored to win big and we better, but let's not be shouting all is well when we win. The same can be said for the SMU game. The sky is not falling....yet. SMU is a very good team. I do think that ACU has a pretty talented squad. That being said, if we continue to call the same plays, it will likely be a long year.

I am seeing comparisons of LA College to Arizona Christian -- a NAIA school that we blasted in 2019 by the score of 66-14. However, ACU lite was a full-fledged NAIA school that could hand out 22 scholarships. A similar game was the home game against Ave Maria in 2014 which we won 55-14.
However, a much better comparison to LA College are 2 games ACU played in 2013 -- the first year of transition to D-1. ACU opened that season with the ill-fated Concordia of AL, an institution which was trying to stave off closure and which would succumb to closing their doors forever 2 years after the game. Concordia was an USCAA institution -- a tiny national federation that has about 20-25 schools loosely aligned. The NCAA allows us to use USCAA schools because they supposedly hand out a few scholarships, hence they can be fodder for FCS schools. ACU beat them 84-6 in one of the saddest games I have ever personally watched at ACU.
Also in 2013, ACU played McMurry and trounced them 60-17. McMurry was in the midst of their climb from D-3 to D-2 status. Less than 2 years after the game, McMurry abandoned their attempt to move to D-2. They were basically a D-3 team that had added a few scholarship players, but not many. Maybe 10-20 players were on any athletic scholarship at all. ACU was not yet at full FCS scholarship limit, in fact we were probably giving out 50-52 scholarship at that point (moving up from the 36 scholarship limit for D-2).
So, this LA College team is much closer aligned to the Concordia or McMurry teams of 2013. They are in the first year of transition to the NAIA -- which allows 22 scholarships in football. No way that they will be giving out all 22 scholarships in their first year -- maybe half? If you have 10 scholarships divided up between 15-20 athletes, that is still not very many. ACU football is now giving out the full 63 scholarships in football -- the scholarships can go to a maximum of 85 athletes. ACU should have 83-85 scholarship athletes in the game -- LA College will have 15-20 max and maybe far fewer than that. Anything less than an ACU win by 40-50 points will be very, very disappointing.

A big win against LC still won't tell us much. I agree with others that it's what we see during the game more than anything else. What I saw during the game last Saturday bothered me as much as the final score. We took a step back. Let's see how we respond. I'm not convinced this coaching staff learned what they needed.

I think this week is about putting the home loss to Angelo State behind us. If we come out of the gate listless and without focus, then we've reached a stagnation point.
But if we dominate this game, with a commanding presence upfront and stretch the field with intermediate and deep passing routes, then we'll have the look of a team that can battle and be in some close games.

Without question. The team couldn't have been more embarrassed by that result to the Rams. I just hope they go into Saturday's game not feeling too much pressure to roll up the score. They can still dominate winning by 30-40 points.

Maybe the board thought I was kidding when I mentioned Chris Petersen and Boise State. Maybe such explosive excitement is beyond the concepts of our coaches. But what great surprises those teams brought to the game and boy did they ever over-achieve. If we want to fill the stadium, a lot more flare than the last few years is needed. That seems so obvious. Win or lose, excitement seems worth the risk. I agree we have more talent this year and they should be around for a couple of years. Here's hoping our future games create enthusiasm and no more third and short despair. Let's see our "best quarterback ever -- per a recent reference" turned loose to surpass Sitton, Lindsey, Longley, Mayes, and Malone, etc. of the past. Let's open up and blow their doors off. That will fill the seats.

I would love to see that, but having a former offensive lineman that came from a ground and pound program as head coach, I just don't know how much we will ever open it up. Going to have to some to be competitive recruiting in Texas.

I'm fully on board with opening up this offense and building up excitement. Unfortunately as others have mentioned, it doesn't seem that this coaching staff has the ability and/or desire to do so all that often.
As for this upcoming game, In my opinion, anything less than a 40 point victory would be a failure in my eyes, and allowing this school to even score into double digits, again, would be a failure in my eyes.
