I know the backup defense is in but I expected them to stop LC from scoring Hard to overcome 2 PI calls and a roughing the passer call. 🙄 I don't have ESPN+ so I couldn't watch game but that would explain them scoring before halftime

LC was a much better game. We knew it would be. Still, many of us were looking for key areas of growth. Growth in penalties? Not really, was that just an issues of unexperienced personnel? Growth in line play and pass rush? I still don't think so. We didn't create enough holes in the middle and we didn't get much pressure on the QB over-all. Was that due to planned scheme and coaching decisions or personnel spread out again? I still don't think so. Our sack came late in the game when the first string had been removed. Also, we got lots of moderate runs, but still didn't dominate and they were able to rush our QBs several times.
The issue is several other of our fellow WAC teams are progressing and I still don't believe we are. I am glad that Dorrel is happy his players got on and off the field appropriately, but that means nothing with 87 yards in penalties. Next week will answer more questions. Again, great win, but there are still a lot of issues to address.

Let’s give the other Wildcats their due. They have good size and they played extremely hard the entire game. We didn’t have many sacks but their QBs were running for their lives all night long. #15 escaped multiple times. He’s a good athlete. Their running back, Briscoe, played at Nicholls State. He’s quick. I think of the long screen pass where Darius came up just short of scoring. The DB made a big time play fighting off the block and stopping the TD. They never gave up.
We weren’t playing Haskell High School last night. We were 22 of 23 passing and averaged nearly 7 yds per carry. The mix and match OL did quite well. I think we did what we were expected to do and everyone got some snaps. Nobody is hurt. I’m unsure what more we could have done. The penalties need to be addressed for sure. (Not sure a couple of them were penalties)
Are we progressing? Hard to tell against this type of competition but the Cats got needed work in.

We got much needed work in for sure and we were able to get some new players time to get reps and evaluate. We weren't playing a HS team but we were playing an NAIA team that is now 0-3, even with the good college players mixed in. I am just not going to make excuses right now. I agree we did what we needed to do and had a great win. I'm not convinced we will be able to do what we need in a few weeks when we face real competition. Even next week will be more of a challenge. What I am hoping is that last night gave us some really good film to look at. What will the coaches do? Two weeks without any significant injury speaks volume to our conditioning. I am thankful for that. What could we have done? How about some pass sacks, more consistent open running lanes in the middle and turnovers? I look forward to next weekend.
