You are right about one thing, Outsider, UTPB is no pushover. We will learn a lot more next Saturday.

This, like every season, is a marathon, not a sprint. Point being, this was a good second step. Meanwhile, while I don’t subscribe to “comparing scores”, it is interesting to note the following:
SMU over UNT, 35-12, makes me feel better UTSA over Lamar, 54-0, shows we’re not alone Sam over SEMO, 52-14, is sobering Tech over SFA, 28-22, is scary JSU over FSU, 20-17, really scary Louisville over EKU, 30-3, hopeful
Let’s make UTPB another positive! Go Wildcats!!
P.S. IF ANYONE NEEDS THEM, I have four great tix available

I see no point in analyzing positives from this game. There was never going to be a doubt we would win or be challenged. Sadly, next week brings more of a test, especially considering what Angelo did to us last year, so I’ll pick back up after next weekend.

One definite positive was the running of the true freshman Walton. Hoping Dobbins was held out just because we knew we wouldn't really need him and not because he is truly injured. Earle was also very impressive with the accuracy of his throws.

We played upwards of 75 players (participation report only shows numbers and there were duplicates). That's a positive. We played two QB's who were a cumulative of 23 of 24 pass completions. That's hard to do just playing catch. We had a #3 and #4 back who ran hard and were effective. Darius Lewis gained confidence and may become an effective #2 option behind Kobe Clarke. Freshman Tyrin Bradley got quite a few snaps at DE as did Damion Hart. Ryan Stapp's star continued to shine. We played nearly every OL on the roster. Landon Eades had some quality minutes at DT. Dobbins, Brannon, Dillingham were obviously injured and DNP. Hope to get them back soon. Disappointing that we still have no one in the middle of the field when a RB clears the LOS. Disappointing that in a game like this we didn't utilize the TE (were any passes thrown to a TE?). Disappointing that we had so many unnecessary penalties against such a weak opponent (that allowed them to score). I'm hoping we see greater improvement between game 2 and 3 and that our starters play more snaps. Hoping we are getting a feel for who can be real contributors from the younger guys. I didn't like Roland Williams mouthing off on every play but I do think he may be the best of the new DB's and start opposite Stapp.

I remember one offense penalty for false start and the very next play Stone threw a TD. Most of the penalties came during the middle to end of the second half of the game and it appeared most happened with second and third team players. Next week UTPB will be a jump up in talent level. they have won 8 straight games dating back to last season. Nothing is worse/scary as a playing a team with confidence that is playing up a division level. Sorry to say...but there truly is not that much talent difference between good DII teams and ACU. It will be interesting to see if Dorrel & staff has the team ready the play.

Just looking at UTPB's OL. We'll be outweighed at every position. Our defense better step it up.

It was great to be at the game. I assume Coach Dorrel will address the personal foul penalties. My big concern for ACU in future games is the secondary. Other than #3, I am afraid of what a good quarterback with good receivers will do, even at the D2 level, not to mention conference games.

I do not like it either but the silent, determined and stoical approach does not work for everyone or all teams. Williams had been physically battling #7 earlier and I couldn't tell why the PF call. He got yanked for that call since I’ m sure the coaches considered that a “dumb” or unnecessary mistake. Maybe. Unfortunately I think the next two calls by the replacement #12 were pass inter and holding??. I could live with some TT as evidence of confidence or cockiness, even if it doesn't always get proofed on the field. They need someone with fire in the belly to try to ignite the whole team...imo. I would like to see a safety, LB or DL exhibit some similar emotion especially since they might be athletically outmanned in some of the upcoming games. Just saying...I like Williams based on what little has been seen so far..he might be as good as if not better than Stapp. Hopefully both will be tough on the corners.

UTPB looks to be a solid D2 team. They are 2-0 and handily defeated WTAM last week. The conversations started in the LaCollege thread are being moved here.

I was looking over box scores last night. One area to look for this week is special teams. PB had some short punts and allowed some fairly long KO returns agains WT and Southwest Baptist.

Thanks Cap, I was going to get this started and had to head out of town. It seems that UTPB is getting most of their yards through the air (544 to 279). That is my main area of concern. We seem to be doing well against the run, but still struggle some with passing. Pressuring the QB goes with that. If we can tighten those up I feel better. I am counting this as one of our wins, but it is by no means a given. If we can play a clean game, with few penalties, I like our chances. I am ready for a couple of turnovers as well.
